What are most of you doing with guests that you have who are not dating anyone or just started dating someone. I was thinking of not inviting them with a guest.
I was talking to a friend last night who is way out of the loop of how much things cost as far as weddings go, actually about everything! She was telling me she needed to find a date for a wedding she is going to in August. So I said to her, how do you know you are going to be invited with a date. She said I never heard of not being invited with a date.
Sorry I am just rambling on! I just do not think it is necessary for someone to be invited with a guest who is not seriously involved with someone. Of course there are situations when there is a guest invited that knows no one at the wedding. In that case, I can see being invited with a guest.
Girls, let me know what you think!

We invited everyone with a guest and let them decide. Most people surprisingly chose not to bring one unless they were dating for years.

I am inviting everyone WITH a guest. I don't think it matters whether or not they are seriously involved with anyone. I don't think people like to go to weddings alone. They may want someone to dance with, etc..... Just because they are single doesnt mean they don't want company. I think it's best to leave the choice up to them.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
Opinions will vary greatly on this topic.
We invited everyone with a guest whether or not they were dating anyone seriously. It's more fun to have someone to dance with and talk to. We wanted our guests to have the best time we could provide.
You are not required to invite people with guests but I would consider the circumstances of the person. If they don't know anyone else at the wedding, I would let them bring a guest. If it's a cousin sitting at a family table, I don't think it's that big a deal.

I agree with Lizlen... I would hate to go to a wedding alone... I would even bring a friend of mine if I wasnt with someone.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
I think it depends on each couple and what they can afford and have room for. Just make sure whatever you choose you do it consistantly. I personally have never been invited to a wedding without a guest. My mother is making me invite all single people (over a certain age of course) with a date. She tells me that she feels that if you have room it is polite to invite everyone with a guest. Not sure I agree with this philosophy. I have heard people come up with excellent arguments for and against.
I would sit down and look at your list - can you afford to invite them with guest? Will some of your guests feel too uncomfortable to come without a date (not knowing anyone etc? - or being only one of say 4 people at the whole wedding without a date). I think it is easier to say no date when you have a large number of singles then when you are only dealing with a small handful of people. JMO

I do think it also depends on each guests situation. I will have to rethink my planning!

I agree with lizlen and kp. Some people will come alone but I hate going to a function alone because you feel like a loser when everyone is slow danceing and you are sitting alone. Plus you never know what could happen. You may not invite your friend with a date because she is not seriously involved with anyone. She could start dating someone two weeks before the wedding and end up engaged to them later on.

I think its ok to invite with out a guest if that is a rule at your wedding....but you have to be careful. It can get sticky....cause are you only inviting people married with a guest or people dating, if dating how long. I guess my point is that if i wasnt dating someone I wouldnt go to a wedding if i was going to be the ONLY single person there....just wouldnt be that much fun.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
We have invited all single adults with a guest. Many of my friends have already stated that they will not be bringing anyone to the party, because they dont want to baby sit.
But I believe in inviting adults with guests

Re: Inviting single people with guests
We are not inviting people with guests unless they are seriously involved with that person. Both of my single girlfriends know they are not being invited with guests - I can't afford for them to just pick some random guy to invite to our wedding. I think as long as you stick to a consistent rule, you'll be alright.
I have been invited to weddings without a guest and I have never been offended by it. In fact, I enjoyed myself more - if you invite a date who doesn't know anybody, you're going to spend the night entertaining them.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
For what I know, it is the norm to invite someone with a guest, I never heard of the contrary. Anyway, my friends have been so considered, that they have asked me if they can bring their dates.

We are doing anyone OVER 18 is invited with a guest regardless of whether they are seeing someone now or not...
I have been to a wedding where the bride & groom had a tremendous guest list and invited ONLY the bridal party with guests....

This is the stickiest of siutations.
Fh and my self have quite a few single friends. We are going to have a conversation with them to see what their intentions are.
I posted this topic before, and while I agree with some of the points the ladies are making I honestly cannot see why someone would want to bring any joe or jill schmo to a wedding just to say they have a 'date'.
I guess I feel this way because I am very comfortable in my own skin and I do not have problems going places alone.
Each situation is different. Talk to your friends and see what their thoughts are.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
We are inviting everyone with a guest b/c it was too hard to pick and choose. Who are we to determine who gets to take a guest and who doesn't. But we are telling our friends that we prefer that they come alone rather than bring a 'random'. They think our 'no random rule' is totally understanding given the cost of weddings these days.

We're inviting everyone with a guest. I know most of them will not just pick anyone to go with, only the one's who are seeing someone. I think people use better judgement and do understand it's your wedding.

I only invited people who were in committed relationships with a guest or if they knew absolutely no one at the wedding.

MV1003 - don't count on it. We invited everyone with guests and happy to do so. But one woman rsvp'd to bring her 17 year old daughter instead of her boyfriend Then didn't show up all together

Re: Inviting single people with guests
Originally I wasn't going to invite people who weren't seriously seeing someone with a guest. But, after looking at our list, there really weren't that many people in that situation so, I figured, I'd give them the option. But, even though I can understand some people would feel weird, you do not have to invite all with guest. It's up to you and your FI and what you can fit/afford.
