What are most of you doing with guests that you have who are not dating anyone or just started dating someone. I was thinking of not inviting them with a guest.
I was talking to a friend last night who is way out of the loop of how much things cost as far as weddings go, actually about everything! She was telling me she needed to find a date for a wedding she is going to in August. So I said to her, how do you know you are going to be invited with a date. She said I never heard of not being invited with a date.
Sorry I am just rambling on! I just do not think it is necessary for someone to be invited with a guest who is not seriously involved with someone. Of course there are situations when there is a guest invited that knows no one at the wedding. In that case, I can see being invited with a guest.
Girls, let me know what you think!

Re: Inviting single people with guests
My mother came from a very large family and I have 32 first cousins...some are married, but the majority are single and dating. Unless my cousins are engaged or married they will not be invited with guests. I just cant afford it, and I have let many of my aunts know this already. Besides the money, my room only hold 150 people so there is no way I could fit all those people.
i will not have a problem telling them - No guest!

We are inviting everyone with a guest. We know those that will and those that will not bring a guest but we are giving them the option.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
We are inviting everyone with a guest (exzcept for 2 cousins under 16). Most of our guests are dating/married to someone and those who are not seriously dating I don't think would bring someone anyway.
I come from a big family too, with a lot of cousins but I'm one of the last to marry so they all have a wife/husband already.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
I think its a very tricky area & depends onwho your inviting. For example I have a lot of out of town guests & I felt I had to invite them with guest because I wouldn't want them to travel alone(I do believe that the majority of related guests will travel together & only bring guests if their seriously involved). I am inviting a lot of coworkers & if I know their totally single I am inviting them solo(most of them know this already & I figure they will hang out with each other). I also have a lot of local cousins & if I know they are seriosly involved I am inviting them with guests, if not solo, but my mom is letting my aunts & uncles know if a cousin really wants to bring a guest they just need to let us know. I wouldn't have invited everyone with a guest because honestly I don't want (or can afford) a lot of people I don't know coming to my wedding.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
I feel very strongly about inviting adults with guests. I just think its a courtesy to your guests and I don't think you always necessarily know if someone has a significant other...
two examples: my old roommate and her boyfriend made plane reservations to go to her friends wedding back east. When the invitation arrived, it was only for her. She didn't know what to do - cancel the plane ticket or ask her friend if the BF could go. She's not the type to go into a lot of details about her relationship. So if her friend even knew about the BF, she probably didn't think it was anything serious - even though they'd be dating for almost a year (and were very serious).
MY DH was IN a wedding where he wasn't invited with a guest. We were dating at the time, but it was a college friends wedding that he hadn't seen in awhile and who I had never met. They didn't know about me. He went to the wedding solo. I would have loved to have been there, expecially since I'm close with these people now.
We invited all singles with dates. Very few actually brought someone - but I believe in giving them that option.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
A friend of mine did not invite me to her wedding with a guest (3 years ago). I had recently started dating my FI and was sad that I couldn't bring him. While yes, there was no way that they would know that we would end up getting engaged one day, but still, I think inviting friends and family without a guest is inconsiderate. Cut your guest list if you must, but I would certainly not invite my single friends (or cousins for that matter) without a guest. Just my $.02.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
two years ago, a former roommate and friend of FSIL got married. FH knew her, had partied with her before, as had I. I had probably socialized with this girl at least 10 times (even spent the night in her apt once) and at that point FH and I had been dating 4 years, quite seriously.
The bride ran into FH in the city about a month before her wedding and did one of those 'Oh! Did you get your invitation?' things meaning she hadn't invited him, didn't want him to know that she hadn't, and needed to cover. Basically he was a second tier guest. Fine, right? The invitation comes 2 days later, with him invited solo. I was FLAMING pi$$ed that I had not been included or asked. Furious, actually. FSIL felt bad but defended the bride by saying the wedding was huge, had grown outsized, and $$ was super tight and that the bride could not afford to invite me too. I was NOT happy about it, but whatever. He went, with the rest of his family (yes, all of my FILs were invited and I was not) and wound up seated next to a girl I have always hated because I felt like she was after my man. Constantly. Needless to say this topic is a sore one with me and I am STILL mad about - and the bride has never once tried to explain or apologize. And guess what? FH has insisted that the bride and her husband be invited to our wedding - together.
So my point is, yes, invite adults with guests, because you never know who might get mortally offended (me) or upset. We had a giant blowout over this because I truly felt disrespected (FH felt I blew it way out of proportion), regardless of how much she had or didn't have. We are inviting everyone with guests, but not kids.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
My FI's family is too big to invite everyone with a guest. His family is also very close and we know who's dating someone and who isn't. We made our decision depending on the person's situation (dating or not dating) and age. All of his single aunts and uncles were invited with guest. None of his second cousins are invited with guests unless they're dating someone. Most of his first cousins are married so it was easy with them. As far as our friends go, we have mutual friends and only felt it was necessary to invite them with a guest if they are dating someone. Our friends and his family have no problem dancing with just anyone and walking up to people they don't know and starting a conversation so we didn't think it would be an issue. My family is small and all of them are married.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
I am inviting people with guests unless they are under 21. The under 21 yr olds are all not dating and their parents are invited. I will sit them with the younger crowd.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
I also feel that adults should be invited with a guest regardless of their dating situation. Some people feel uncomfortable attending alone. I recently attended a wedding where a woman in her mid twenties attended alone and I felt so bad for her. She was the only one at the table when a slow song was played, there were other singles there, but they were more outgoing and kind of just mingled. She sat there all alone. My FH and I actually decided to go sit back down so that she wansn't by herself at the table. I think adults should have the option to bring a date.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
i agree, it is a sticky situation.
here's what we've decided...
it would be very nice if we could afford to invite every single person with a guest, but we simply cannot. we are trying to cut back a bit so we are not inviting our friends with guests unless they are seriously dating/living together/engaged/etc. i wish we could, but its just too expensive for us.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
Our original intention was to invite everyone w/guest. But then the guest list got outta control (mostly due to FH's relatives who are deciding at last minute they want to attend), & we can only have 160 peeps in the room, so something has to give & it may be singles who aren't dating someone seriously. But we're still waiting & hoping it'll work itself out & we can invite singles w/a date, which is what I'd prefer to do
We're only have space restriction problems. But if it were a matter of $$, I'd have no problem inviting singles without a date.

Re: Inviting single people with guests
Although we are on a tight budget, we decided that we will invite everyone with a guest. I just think it is more fun if you have a date. Although, FMIL informed me that FBIL will probably bring one of his buddies. Not too happy about that!
