Inviting someone 'Plus Guest'

Re: Inviting someone 'Plus Guest'

We have gotten invites to weddings that said '& guest' on them and DH and I were together longer then those getting married

Its insulting and annoying but I think people just dont know the proper etiquette.

wow - i am the only one that does not think this is a big deal? if u were not engaged to his brother- u wouldnt be invited thats why you are guest. i guess i might consider putting both engaged couple's names on the invite but i dont think its that serious if not.

It depends...

I agree with bunny above...

Maybe they don't know how serious the two of you are.

Maybe they don't know how to spell your last name.

It could be worse. I got 'un-invited' to a wedding of one of my friends after my date and I broke up (he was closer with her).

I think if you are engaged then each of the names should be on the invitation- or if 2 people have been dating for a long time- otherwise if you are inviting a single person it is ok to put 'and guest'. we just got invited to a black tie wedding and my name was spelled wrong! I was so mad- they are going to be invited to my wedding yet they can't get my first or last name right?!

The way that I did it if I knew that the person is in a serious relationship or has a 'steady' boy/girlfriend that I knew about then I would try and find out their name..

If I got an invite and it said 'Danielle & Guest' and they know I have a fiance I'd be ticked off about them not putting his name down since we've been together 3 years.

Wow your name should have been on the invite.

Thats a little messed up but maybe there's a reason!!
Do you know his fiancee???
I sent out an invitation to my husbands cousin and addressed it to Todd and Stacy....p.s his wife's name is Shannon!!
oops
Maybe that's why they didn't send a gift.

I'd see if your FH can mention is to his brother...just to remind them that you have a name and it's not 'Plus 1'

My cousin did this to me lol, they sent me an invite addressed to Jessica and Jason.... My FH name is Jashua. We got a good laugh out of it..

I would write it off to male laziness, that you FBIL doesn't know your last name and told her to just say +1.

With finding out 200+people's SO you can get burnt out. Don't take it personally

I put everyone plus guest unless we really know them then i put both names.

Thats just bad form, especially since you are engaged.

Agreed that it was rude.

FBIL doesn't know his FSIL (the OP's) last name? That is strange. Are the two brothers estranged or something?

For God's sake, how hard is it to find out the last name of a future family member?

If there's a possibility that the 'guest' could be a stranger, then it's OK. But that was not the case here.

ETA--clarification.

we are only doing 'and a gues' for married engaged or very long term relationships...i am not inviting my cousin who has a different girlfriend every week with a guest!

and yes i think it was rude they didnt out your name on it!

Re: Inviting someone 'Plus Guest'

There is nothing rude about putting Mr. John Smith and guest, when you want the person you're inviting to bring a guest and you don't know thats specific person's name.

However, in you're case, it is RUDE of HIM for not putting your name on the invite. It looks like he doesn't acknowledge that you are his brothers fiancee
