Inviting the officiant?

How does this work with the officiant? I know we invite them to the rehearsal dinner, but do we invite them to the wedding as well? Im having my ceremony and reception in the same place. Im not sure if that matters. I just didn't know what was the appropriate thing to do...

TIA!

We didn't invite our priest to our RD b/c he was at the reception of the Friday night wedding (our rehearsal was Friday), but we did invite him to our reception. He came and stayed for most of it and it was great. Our guests loved having him there as did we. But my family is close to him, so I know not all will feel the same way about their officiant.

Yes, you invite the officiant to the wedding itself. (S)he should receive a regular invitation.

From some of the recent threads on this board on the topic, it seems that many officiants turn down the invitation because of prior commitments. However, on the off chance he or she accepts, the officiant should be included in the regular headcount and seated with guests, not with the vendors.

FTR, DH and I hired a retired judge to the wedding (we found out about him from LIW and didn't know him beforehand) and we invited him and his wife. They attended the cocktail hour to get a bite to eat but didn't stay for the reception, so we didn't include them in the headcount.

So, did they send back the RSVP as no when you sent them the invite?

And if mine do come...who the hell would I sit them with??

My officiant indicated 'no' on his RSVP and wrote a note on the card indicating he and his wife would be sticking around only for the CH. We talked about it in a subsequent meeting, too.

As far as seating them, you would seat them where you see fit among the guests.
