I have such an issue with things like this! FH & I were out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory last weekend and next to us was a couple with their 2 kids - probably 6 & 8 ish. One had an ipad and the other had a DS. Really? Your kids can't sit through dinner? THIS is why kids feel like everything should be handed to them and they are all about instant gratification.

Re: Ipad vent
At Christmas I was telling my goddaughter how I went to Jingle ball. I told her it was a Z100 concert. She's turning 11 in a few weeks. Anyway, she asks me 'what's z100?' I'm like uhhhhh the radio station. She had no clue and I asked well what do you do in the car and she said listen to her iPod or play with her Nintendo ds. I dont know it just blew my mind how different kids are these days.

I cant stand that kids use all the technology... where is their imagination? what ever happened to go outside and play...
it reminds me of the movie grown ups when adam sandler is talking to his kids about the TV and they are like whats the large thing coming out the back of the TV?? and then he says go play, nd the kids are like whats that??
RIDIC... teach your kids baseball, etc throw mud on them

OMG YES THANK YOU!!
FH has a cousin who bought his 18 month old an ipad. chase just puts it on the floor and jumps on the screen. that's in addition to the way i see one of nieces being raised by tv, iphone, movies, etc. What happened to books and playtime with mom or dad or anyoneeeee who is a real person?

but you're not a child lacking in imagination whose parents decided it's easier to plop you in front of that instead of getting you to do something productive!

I hate that parents use it was a parenting tool. Although on the other side for my students who are non-verbal the ipad has become there voice.

I don't mind ipads - but I do mind that parents use it to babysit their kids. I love that you have them for non-verbal students! We have 30 in my school and they are a great tool for certain lessons with my group.

I do the same! Are you an SLP? I bring use my Ipad in therapy ALL the time. It is really a great tool to use with kids. The key word being 'WITH' - meaning mom, dad, whoever need to participate too.
