ipod pros and cons - is there anything else out there?

ipod pros and cons - is there anything else out there?

hi ladies!!

I am asking for an ipod for Christmas but I am not 100% yet. I am an obsessive researcher, and I have heard complaints (like with any product) e.g. low battery life, scratches easily, itunes is a pain to work with, unit can crash...etc...

Wondering if any of you have an MP3 that you love that is NOT an ipod.

Or if any ipod users out there want to talk about the pros and cons of the machine.

I've hear about the scratching- they slel cases & covers though. I have heard I tunes is easy- don't know from experience yet--I am getting one for Christmas.

I think most people agree the pros outweigh the cons.

i got an ipod last year for christmas. mine does have scratches on it and i always seem to have to charge it. also i haven't found a case for the headphones, so i wrap them around the ipod and now the wiring is showing...

but i love being able to access 5,000 songs! i don't use itunes that often, so i mostly just downloaded all of my regular CDs to it.

The case does scratch and if you don't use the iTunes for a while sometimes it crashes- but it is VERY easy to fix.... you just toggle the switch and it comes right up.

The iPod is clearly the industry leader here- I don't see any other playes (Dell, Sony, etc) making up any market share.

I love my iPod and have no complaints.

I have an MP3 thats not an Ipod.
I got it last year its actually a yepp.

I love it!!! Sooo tiny and cute. battery life is good and it holds more songs then I can listen to in an 1 1/2 hour gym session

yes the ipod does scratch very easily. you just look at it and it scratches. however, i would never carry mine around without a case. it's a hard drive, and if you drop it bye-bye. you need to have something protecting it imo. mine's in it's case all the time.

as far as itunes, i don't see how anyone could say it's hard to use. it's the easiest thing ever. i've never had any trouble with it at all.

my ipod has frozen up a few times since getting it. but like someone else said just toggle the switch and it's back to normal.

as far as battery life, there's no way i get 12 hours out of mine. not sure why not. i think it gets about 9. which is still great.

honestly though these are really little things when you consider how easy it is to use, the convenience of it, and just how cool it is.

dh has a rio mp3 player. at least i think that's the brand. it's a find product, but doesn't have the same features for sorting music like genre, playlists etc. it works just fine, but imo if you have a ton of music you can't beat the organization you get from an ipod.

I love my iPod.

I ahve a mini, so the outside is metal, not plastic and it has no scracthes wahtsoever, but that can easily be handled with a case.

iTunes is the EASIEST thing ever.

I've NEVER had a crash on the iPod or the itunes software.

The battery life is fine for me. it lasts a LOT longer than any CD player I've ever had has, and with the dock I just come home and put it on the dock, and I don't even think about it, that's just where I keep my iPod, yanno?

My FH has another MP# it may be the rio. it donest have anything enar the features that the iPod has. on iPod it is SO easy to make and change playlists and sort by genrea, album, artist, etc, etc. I LOVE it. I actually have NO cons at all. I'd say the price, because it is $$$, but it's worth every penny!

if its under a year old, they'll replace the headphones for you for free!!! hurry up and get there!

I love my ipod I have the 30G one, had over 3000 songs on it and it crashed and erased, now ipod is just sitting there empty. I will put songs back on when I get a chance. also it crashed when I had to reinstall the software on my new computer, I had to plug it in and it deleted everything. so just becareful of that HTH

i love my ipod!! i think apple makes the best mp3 player out there. yes it has scratches on it and i do charge it every night, but i know i can count on it to work. no cpmplaints whatsoever. itunes is so easy to use and so is the ipod itself.

Anyone with an iPod run or jog with it?

I want to buy one for my DH, but he will primarily be using it for his 5 mile run six times a week. I heard that the pounding can ruin the hard drive. But others who run say it is fine.

Any advice? I was told a non-hard drive MP3 player may be better, but they only hold about 4 hours of songs

i've gone running with mine. i have a little belt like a fanny pack (but way cooler looking!) that i put it in. both times i've gone running (4 miles) it's frozen up towards the end. however, the mini ipod (i have a 20gb) is not a hard drive like the regular ipod, it uses flash memory or something and those work fine when running.
