Can anyone tell me how to open up an IRA? Can I do this on my own? And do I open up one with a bank??

Just go to the bank and meet with someone there to set it up. We just set one up a few weeks ago.

You usually open one with a bank or a brokerage firm. I have mine through Salomon Smith Barney. If you deal with a broker, though you will prob have to pay a broker's fee.

you can open one with a bank - i use citibank for regular banking and i always see signs that you can do that - i think you can use one of those online companies too - i have a roth ira with ameritrade, and the transaction fees are usually lower than a regular bank.
