Irish brides

can you help me come up with a list of songs (between 10 and 20) that I'd want played at the wedding? I want a mix of contemporary (like saw doctors) and I need a lot of traditional songs.... thanks!

Saw Doctors definitely - I usta love her...it's one of the popular ones and great for jiving but not one you want to hear at a wedding ...lol...unless you got a sense of humor. 'Tommy K' is another good song to dance too.

Bang on the Ear by The Waterboys

Dreamers and Believers by The Whole Shabang

Black Velvet Band - good waltzing song

Boston Rose - good slow song

One Road (or We're on the One Road) - another good song - we may play it as the last song at our wedding.

Seige of Ennis is traditional and a line dance of sorts...if anyone knows it at your wedding it's fun to do (if you can find a copy of the song though..that's the hard part)

Let me take a look at our cd's and if I find any others that are good I'll FM you.

ETA: for contemporary don't forget U2 and The Corrs. And maybe toss in a Riverdance tune.

Very good choices. my mom and dad used to do a good stack of barley in their day!

I don't know where you'd find the fast version of fields of athenry. i'll ask my friend's husband, he's a dj in yonkers at an irish bar.

how about whiskey in a jar - i think there's a version by thin lizzy which is more rock and the irish rovers(?) did the more trad. version

The waterboys song I mention above is on the cd 'fisherman's blues' and the song 'fisherman's blues' is good too.

FH gave my dad his irish cd's so that my dad could listen and choose what he wants to hear for the wedding. I'm blanking on songs at the moment.

How about Whiskey in the Jar by the Dubliners and Streets of New York by Wolfe Tones? There is also another song but I can't remember the name. I think it is by the Wolfe Tones.... 'Ooh, Ah, Up Eire' is the chorus. It is a fun song.

Any Irish brides getting a DJ with a good collection of these songs? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bride626

The song you're thinking about is called Celtic Symphony. It is the Wolfe Tones.

As for irish dj's - purchase a copy of the Irish Echo or Irish Voice - there is usually some DJ's advertising in the classifieds section. I dont' know of any offhand though.

Re: Irish brides

A traditional song would be the 'Irish wedding Song'. My father surprised us at our wedding by handing out the lyrics to each of our guests. The DJ put the song on and everyone at the wedding sang to us! It was great!
