I already have a few ideas. But you girls are so creative! I thought I would give this a try. Do any of you girls have any ideas for an irish theme wedding that does't involve shamrocks! Leaning more towards the trinity knot/claddagh thing. TIA

Re: Irish Theme
You could:
Say something in Gaelic in your vows/have Gaelic written in your ceremony programs When giving a toast, instead of saying 'Cheers!' say 'Slainte!' I would steer away from anything dealing with Leprauchans or Pots of Gold--they were made up by the British to poke fun at the Irish Have a bagpiper at your ceremony, Try to find a Ueleanpiper because that's more irish (bagpipes are scottish) Have some part of your dress with lace
Can you tell that me and FH are irish??? lol
If you want more info you can check out theknot.com and search for irish themes and ideas on there for other info

Re: Irish Theme
My FH and I were considering an Irish theme if we booked our wedding for March, but we wound up with April and dropped it.
Anyway, we wanted bagpipers and were going to use celtic knots as much as we could - for a border around the invitations, necklaces for the bridesmaids, cufflinks for the groomsmen...
Then we were going to have the DJ play some fun Irish music at the reception too. Oh - and have the Irish Blessing as one of the readings at our ceremony...
Maybe I should have stuck with that since I moved the date to April and now have NO ideas for colors or themes!!
and you can name your tables after places in Ireland
have bagpipes at the wedding
dress the bridal party in green..

Re: Irish Theme
I am doing a irish themed wedding. It is more of a green/clover theme with a splash of irish.
Disclaimer: I know not every irish person drinks but Fh and I are beer people we go to beef fests and tastings. We are beer snobs.. anyway..
For our favors we are doing monogramed pint classes (our monogram has clovers in it), we have two coasters (one of ireland and one of a irish brew), a cd of all traditional irish music but contemporary and old time favorites bands and singers, clover shaped chocolates.
For flowers: we are incorporating green flowers and individual shamrock plants as place card holders.
For our table numbers and the back of our invitations we have purchased old st. patricks day postcards which I have scanned in to reproduce. So Each table gets a specific postcard image (harp, lady, st. patrick, castle, etc) as the table number. ST. Patrick postcard will be on the back of the inviation as a keepsake if someone wishes to use it for st. pats decoration in a frame.
We have irish music playing at cocktail hour and a song in the reception.
Guinness will be served (i tried to have smithwicks and murphys also but it would of cost us a arm and a leg)
Cornbeef (although not really irish but german-be too hard to serve my fav. dish of bangers and mash w/ peas) and irish soda bread to be served at cocktial hour.
We are using irish linens for the favor table, ceremony table, sign in table (all hand made irish lace with clovers in it)
We tried to hire a irish band or traditional fiddle and pipe player/tin whistle but no one panned out.
Ummm bp is in black and clover green (black is a unlucky color in irish culture from what i have been told by relatives and would be a sin to use black in a wedding but i am doing it anyway)
I would stay away from st. pats stuff as stated. I was going that direction until I saw how cheesy it was going.
I have some stuff in my album if you wish to look.

Re: Irish Theme
I'm having the Irish wedding song sung at my wedding. Its a beautiful song here are the lyrics: The Irish Wedding Song
Here they stand hand in hand they've exchanged wedding bands Today is the day of their dreams and their plans, and all we who love them just wanted to say. May God bless this couple who married today In good times and bad times in sickness and health may they know that riches are not needed for wealth and help them face problems they'll meet on their way Oh god bless this couple who married today May they find peace of mind comes to all who are kind May the rough times ahead become triumphs in time May their children be happy each day Oh God bless this family who started today As they go may they know every love that was shown And as life it gets shorter may their feelings grow Wherever they travel wherever they stay May God bless this couple who married today *substitute first names of bride and groom in the last line of song as in god bless...and ....
