Is $179 too much for a hotel room?

Is $179 too much for a hotel room?

I'm starting to look at hotel rooms for my guests and figured the easiest is the Inn at Great Neck. Well they just responded with the quote of $179. IMO that's a lot. I'm going to keep looking but do you of any other places (my church is in Flushing and my reception is at Leonards). Also we checked the Ramada on Northern Blvd and the lobby smelled, so my FMIL vetoed that one.
Thanks,
Donna

I think it is a bit much, but what about giving them two chjoices, a cheaper one, and that one, so they ahve the choice of what they want to spend

That is alot. Shop around and you will find some good deals. Try the Holiday Inn, they are all over the place and better priced.

I wouldn't pay that much. You need to take into consideration travel costs and what they may be giving as a gift. I would try to give people more than one option.

we had a very bad time with holiday inn in westbury we blocked 40 rooms and this was 1 yr in advance the 11th person called to book a room and they told the guest they had to push twin beds together so we went wit the li marriot in uniondale and got a rate of 159 which we are very happy with and were very accomodating .good luck

I agree- $179 is a lot to pay. You could use them but you should offer an alternative with a lower price. We are blocking rooms at the Melville Mariott and got a rate of $149. It's high but it's July 4th weekend so we don't think we'll get them to go down. My FMIL felt that we needed to have a lower-priced option so we blocked rooms at the holiday inn in Plainview at a rate of $129. Check into Mariott hotels- maybe there is one closer that has a good rate.

too high, i'm shooting to negotiate $100-125/night wherever I go and will definitely provide guests more than 1 option...

i am actually going to start the hunt this coming weekend, i hope it's not too disappointing!

Our hotel is giving us a group rate of $129.00. There are 3 hotels on Northern (the Ramada, the Adria and the Anchor Inn). Why don't you try calling them.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Some of those hotels mentioned won't help me because they are too far out on LI. I'm trying to stay in the Bayside - Manhasset area.
Thanks!

I am paying $80.00 for a hotel in Jersey (sorry)

But $179.00 is TOO expensive!

We weren't impressed with the hotels on Northern in Bayside either. You might also want to consider the airports around LaGuardia. It's not too far at all, maybe an extra 10-15 minutes or so, and they have some nice ones that are probably a bit more reasonable.

I did one hotel at $180 and one at $135 and believe it or not, many people went with the expensive one but some went with the cheaper. I gave them a choice and it worked out well. I would not go with one expensive.

The 3 hotels I mentioned are all located in Bayside on Northern Blvd. They're not 5 star hotels that I'd want to vacation at, but they should be clean and comfortable for your guest's one night stay.

I'm getting married in Great Neck and I am booking rooms at The Andrew. It is down the block from the Inn at Great Neck. They quoted me a rate of $145. Hope this helps!

I think that is a bit much to ask people to pay for a hotel room. I blocked rooms for my wedding at a $99 hotel and then $189 for those that wanted a romantic place and could afford more. Nobody is staying at the $189 but us.

Check the Courtyard Marriott by LaGuardia... should be $99-$139.

We had the same issue- the Inn at Fox Hollow's rooms are $189 per night. So to compromise we also told people about the Best Western where the rooms are $109. Most people opted to stay at the more expensive one but I felt we needed to give people a choice!

i think it really depends on the hotel. We are getting a bloc of rooms at the inn at fox hollow because our reception is next door. that hotel is all suites and the rooms are 179. it comes with a full american breakfast in the morning and the hotel is gorgeous. not to mention you can walk back from our reception.
