Is $236 too much for a BM dress?

Is $236 too much for a BM dress?

So I went shopping this weekend and fell in love with a great BM dress. It was $236. I was like - ok don't worry RK, bridesave, netbride or somewhere will have it cheaper.

After searching for hours on the internet, I could not find Alvina Valenta dresses anywhere cheaper! I feel bad having to ask my girls to pay close to $300 (tax & altering) for the dress.

Should I keep looking? Should I offer to pay for the altering? It is driving me crazy b/c I know that if I had to spend that much I probably wouldn't be happy. Any advice would help!

Here's a pic of the dress

I was in my friends wedding last year and the dresses were $250 not including tax or alterations. It came out to well over $300. I didn't really have the money, but I came up with it. But then don't forget about the added things they will have to pay for on top of the dress. Your shower, their hair, shoes, undergarments, nails, accessories, gift, bachelorette party etc. I guess you kind of have to think of all your girls, take a look at them and see if you think they'll be able to cover the cost, maybe even flat out ask them and see what they say!!
For my friends wedding mentioned above, after all was said and done I ended up spending over $1000 on the dress, shoes, accessories, shower, bachelorette, hair, nails!! Just take all that into consideration. It is a beautiful dress!! Good Luck!!

ETA- At least the dress you like can be worn again, so that is a plus, the one we had for my friends wedding was butt ugly and will never ever be worn again.

It really depends on your bms and there financial situation.
I know my bm's financial situations and IMO I couldnt ask them to spend $236 b/c I wouldnt want to put them in that position. Even though they couldnt really afford it ... they probably would get it anyway.

For other girls bms money isnt so much of an issue.

Why dont you talk to each girl and see how she feels about it?

Also did you try netbride and bridesave and see what they quote you?

I would take a picture of the dress to another salon and ask if they have anything similar but less expensive. I was once in a wedding where the dress was over $450... yes, ouch. The bride and groom (my best friend) met in January, engaged in April and married by Nov. I also had to pay rush charges for the dress, thankfully I'm a standard size so it needed very little alterations.

i think it all depends on your BP. i know mine wouldn't be able to afford it which is why i wanted to keep mine around/below the 150 range if possible.

My BM dresses are in that neighborhood and I specifically asked my BMs what price range they would be comfortable with before I even selected ones to check out. I would ask your BMs if they would be ok with that cost.

I think you should have a sit down with your bridesmaid and find out if they are okay with spending that amount. Ask them what is thier price range.

I agree. Honestly even if they could afford it I would never ask them to pay that, knowing all the other costs they will end up paying as part of the BP.

I did call Burton they can't get that designer.

I guess I am going to keep looking and keep it as a backup.

I think that is ok. I am trying to stay in the $250 or below range. Of course I like ones from Thread that are like $350. If I go for anything over $250, I will pay the difference.

Hi,
I think it's just a little too much $ to spend. Remember they have to still pay for their hair to get done, makeup, shoes, and give you guys a gift on top of it all. (Bachelorette party and sometimes Bridal shower, etc.) It's a lot to ask. How many girls are you having, and what are their relation to you?

Two are my sisters and they said they were fine with it but they are going to be paying for a lot (bridal shower, hair, makeup, etc.) One friend has a little guy at home and isn't working and the other friend I think wouldn't mind.

I am going to keep looking. Thanks girls! I had to hear it from someone else that it was too much!

Honestly saying, Yes. But then again, if your BMs has the money to pay for it, all is well. I agree with the other girls about the other expenses that they will be paying for. Like alterations, your shower, your bachelorette party and so on.

mine were 200! but what can you do, if the dress is beatiful and they can wear it again, why not? being a bridesmaid is not a cheap responsiblity.

it really depends on their situation!!

I would not be able to handle that, but then again, I am a receptionist!

Talk to them...I think if you communicate the issue and ask honestly 'is this too much to handle?' you will get an honest response.

Good Luck!

I wouldn't have asked my BM to spend that much, but that's also because I know that a couple of them couldn't have afforded it. To be honest, my girls got off pretty damn easy and they still complained and flaked out of paying for certain things.
