So FH and I have been stuck on the idea of doing three songs of 3 different genres in our first dance. We really want the dance to capture us as a couple and our cultures, and I feel like these three songs do that.
We are dancing a little bit over 2 minutes of each song, adding up to about 7 minutes. Do you guys think that's too much? We having the routine choreographed ( we start lessons next week) so I was thinking that even though it would be long, it be interesting as we switch from slow, to a little faster, fast, with new moves that we have never done before.
We are dancing to Sade 'by your side' then a bachata, and then a salsa. What do you think?
***UPDATE: Thanks all for sharing your opinions! FH and I went back last night and listened to the songs again. We considered many of the options some of you shared and decided to keep all three songs in the routine, but we cut it down from 7 minutes to 5. This is what we have envisioned doing for a long time and whoever can't handle 5 minutes tough! Our first dance is about us two anyway! Thanks again girls!

FH and I are dancing to 'wonderful tonight' and the copy we picked is around 8 min long.. maybe even longer. and we're not cutting it at all! there are TWO places in the song where we'll invite our parents to dance.. then everyone else. so the first 5 minutes its just us.
and honestly, the day is about US.... so you're day is about YOU, if thats what you want, go for it.. worst case scenario, people get distracted... so what.. in that moment, the only person that matters is him.
(I would also try it.. as a dance instructor, I can tell you.. 7 minutes is a long time to dance without breaks)

its kinda long...at my cousins wedding.they had the first dance then a 8 min photo montage of them two..all while people were standing..people got very antsy...
why not break it up..do ur first dance..then a spotlight dance then another one say after cake?

i think thats too much, as much as your gusts are excited to be there in all honesty theyll prob get a little bored, they wanna have fun too

why not do one dance for the first, and then at another point in the reception, have the dj/band call you up one more time as a couple to do the other two, maybe while people are finishing up a course.

I'm sorry but i think 7 minutes is too long; people might start to loose interest after the first couple of minutes

7 is A LOT. i wouldnt go over 3 or 4..
