My mom and I went looking for dresses for her for the wedding (i know it is late)
We only went to nordstrom's but found this GORGEOUS black gown that isnt really only black - it has silver and champagne beading on it with black lace and backed by champagne satin towards the bottom - It has spaghetti straps, v neck empire waist.
She had tried on a few there but this one looks awesome on her! We are still going to look at afew more places -
BUT, do you think it is wrong for the mother of the bride to where a predominately black gown?? I personally have no problem with it - i wanted black bridesmaid dresses but got vetod by it because my BMs said it looked too funeral-like - this gown however in no way could ever be worn at a somber event.

Re: Is a black dress ok for a mother of teh bride??
If it's got some champagne in it to break it up I say she should get it if it makes her feel beautiful. I just have to ask about the 'symbetheri' (in-laws)? I hope they aren't the old-fashioned type. Once upon a time when a mother wore black to the wedding it was an indication she wasn't happy with the marriage. LOL! I'm sure that's not the case any more.
I would guess it's a great time to shop for the dress. There are lots in the department stores now for the holidays and all stores have sales. If not, I'm sure you know she can get some percentage off just for opening up a credit card. Good luck. I would love to see pictures when she gets it.

Oh, I was just thinking. Did you check into Nordstrom's return policy? In some department stores, as long as you keep the receipt and leave all the tags on they'll take the dress back at any time. Many don't have time limits. I would go back and buy that dress just to be sure it's not sold. At least she'll have one and if she finds something else she's happier with she can return it.

My son got married at NRC and I wore a black dress. I loved it. It was not a problem at all. I never got so many compliments in my life.

if she loves it and feels beautiful in it, I think she should get it. Lots of people wear black to weddings, and look very elegant.

I don't think that a black dress would be a big deal. If the dress looks good and your mom feels good in it let her wear.
