is a month TOO long?

is a month TOO long?

I know I'm a quick reader, but I'm afraid I'm going to forget everything before its time to discuss Lovely Bones - I've read a couple other books since then.

And, I'm afraid to start Topping from Below, cause I'll have the same problem.

Anyone else feel like its too long? or are there folks that take the whole month to finish the book?

I think a month is too long, I usually finish books in a week or two.

Me, me! I think we need to start a fast readers group that reads the runner up in between the main selections.

Lisa - you read my mind! I was just thinking of polling everyone tonight to see if 1 mth is needed for everyone. I finished the book 2 wks ago, and I'm already afraid I'm forgetting the details.

I'm a fast reader if I enjoy the book, but I think maybe 2 weeks (3 at most) might work better.

Also, how will the book conversation begin? I'm anticipating it to be a little insane, with everyone posting at the same time and all. Maybe we could have 1 thread for each subject on the book, so it's less confusing?

I'm up for a shorter time too. I have a bad habit of forgetting details of what I read. If I have to, I can finish a book in a day or two!

That is the reason I am not getting the new book until the end of February.

I agree, and with these choices I read the books in 24 hours! I think we should make the time frame much shorter.

Well if those who want to read fast want to have a club of their own then what will become of the club. I am almost done with LB, it is so not my usual book so I am finding it hard to pick up and read. I consider myself a fast reader but this book is slow for me. In most book clubs that I have heard of the time frame is usually a month. I guess here is another majority vote again. I think for some waiting to get the book might have added to the time. WHo knows.

I don't think anyone is suggesting a club of their own. Perhaps an additional 'optional' book to be read in between the main monthly selection, so that we are kept on better schedule. (I am halfway through Topping from Below already, and know I should read something else first!)

I am up for an additional optional book b/c I finished LB a while ago and I have already read 2 other books since!! I forgot what it's about LOL!! But the regular book club should remain as is b/c it might take others longer to find the books at the library or to read, etc..

Everyone has different schedules & some may not be able to read as fast as others.
Although I finished the book in less than a week, others may not

Re: is a month TOO long?

This may sound like a bizarre suggestion, but what if the fast readers read the #2 selection for the month prior to reading the #1 selection. This way they'll have a book in between the reads?

I just finished good in bed, and the book was pretty good, especially towards the end... I would say the last third of the book was very dinamic compared to the first two thirds.

I think it would be best to leave the time frame alone, and read whatever you like in between. I have read about two or three books since reading Lovely Bones.

Wanted to add that if we adhere to 1 month schedule, we would only be reading 12 books a year. That is not nearly enough for many.

I like the idea of reading the runner up book, for faster readers. Maybe do that one first, then the top choice for the main read & discuss.

I'd be up for that!

I can read books farely fast, but I was in the middle of another book when we satrted this so I just started the lovely bones. I think we should keep it a month to read because some people don't have the time or just can't read that fast, if you know you are a fast reader wait till the last minutew like me. Let me know when to read the 2nd book by

112903, that is what happened with me too, I cannot put a book down in the middle and start another one. So I just went ahead and continued reading my first book and I started LB a week and a 1/2 after everyone else.

For the first selection I think a month was fine. Some of us were in the middle of another book, some needed some time to order the book etc.

Going Forward, I think we should discuss the time frame for the second and subsequent books during our book discussion. This way could try to come to a happy compromise.
