Is a video a must?

Original post by jenclifwed

Hey girls,

So I'm just looking over my wedding budget and the numbers are starting to get scary. We are trying to pay for the whole wedding in cash and only putting our honey moon on a credit card. I know we can do it but its hard. I'm looking over the budget to see where we can cut here and there.

My FH doesn't think a video is a must have. I have always thought it was something we need. But now looking at our budget....$2,000 is kind of a lot. I don't ever want to look back and think it was a mistake to not have a video. once its done and done and theirs no going back. Can you guys give me your thoughts on this? anyone wish they had a video? are photos enough? id just like some outside thoughts on this.

thank you!

2 weeks before my wedding I decided to get video....the day goes by so fast and you really do not remember a lot of it :( I got my highlight trailer and peopl are still watching it! I used GT modern creations, they are an adorable couple who not only treated me as a friend rather than a client, they captured some amazing moments that my photog could have never captured :) fm me if you want more info! They are def under 2k!

I think video is a must..think you never get to see the BP walking down the aisle or into the reception.

Plus there are so many things they will capture that you or your DH will not see or remember.

Mostly because it captures everyone that you can look back on one day

I'm not getting video. I've come across too many people who spent thousands on video and they watch the video a couple times and then it becomes a dust collector.

What I am doing instead is having a family member do video of the ceremony, first dance, parent dances, garter/bouquet toss and cake cutting. Best part, family is free!

I don't think the whole event being filmed is a must. I am only having the ceremony filmed because that is all i care to have on video. And its only costing me $300. I think pictures can capture more than video can so i concentrated more on that. Besides i never seen a married couple take out their video years later to watch everything that happened that day. Everyone just loves watching the most important part and that is the ceremony. Just my opinion.

I wasn't going to do video either because of budget reasons, and now I am soooo happy I did. There's so many moments that I know pictures can't fully explain the emotions of and the video will. The day goes by so fast also that I want to be able to watch the video to remember.

I went with Myther Ganibe who was under $2000. Feel free to FM me if you want more info. He's AMAZING!!!

I also wasn't going to do video but thanks to adelz, I contacted Myther Ganibe and booked him on the spot. I always thought videos were boring but the work he does is amazing. He was by far my best vendor. I liked him so much that I booked him for my TTD session. He's working on my wedding highlights and should be ready in about 2 weeks. Check his website, I just can't say enough amazing things about him.

Initially, we thought we'd go without video. The more we thought about it, we realized how important it really was for us. Aside from wanting our future children to be able to watch it (I used to love to watch my parents' wedding), we both want the memories of our familes. I love photography, but you don't hear a voice or watch movement and laughter when you look at a print.

its a personal choice - you prob will only watch once but i think you still need it!

Re: Is a video a must?

we didn't do a video. on the day of, my sister's bf at the time wound up recording our ceremony, entrance and the moh & bm speeches.. maybe even a few other things, i couldn't even tell you bc we watched it one time after the wedding! it was pretty cool to see since we didn't ask him to record anything but we have literally watched it once. needless to say, im glad we didn't spend 2k on a video.

to me both vid & photos are a must. everything else like flowers wont last but the memories captured will last forever.
