So I'm just looking over my wedding budget and the numbers are starting to get scary. We are trying to pay for the whole wedding in cash and only putting our honey moon on a credit card. I know we can do it but its hard. I'm looking over the budget to see where we can cut here and there.
My FH doesn't think a video is a must have. I have always thought it was something we need. But now looking at our budget....$2,000 is kind of a lot. I don't ever want to look back and think it was a mistake to not have a video. once its done and done and theirs no going back. Can you guys give me your thoughts on this? anyone wish they had a video? are photos enough? id just like some outside thoughts on this.
thank you!

I wasn't going to do video either because of budget reasons, and now I am soooo happy I did. There's so many moments that I know pictures can't fully explain the emotions of and the video will. The day goes by so fast also that I want to be able to watch the video to remember.
I went with Myther Ganibe who was under $2000. Feel free to FM me if you want more info. He's AMAZING!!!

I think a video is a must. I know it seems like a lot of $$, but since you are already spending $$, i feel you want something to remember your special day by...I don't think you will regret spending the $$ on it.

i did not think video was a necessity either but a few friends told me they did not have video and they regret it (even though when i spoke to friends that did have video they say they never watch it lol). i would try to price it out elsewhere and see if you can get it cheaper. maybe even a film student or something like that just so you have some video even though it may not have the most advanced editing

Re: Is a video a must?
We weren't going to do a video at all, but then we decided to because it wasn't that much more to add it on to our photo package. But then after a few months, we realized that although we love our photographer, the video work wasn't that great. We had gotten used to the idea of having a video, so we decided to go elsewhere to find a better style for not a ton of money.
We ended up booking JayR Castillo - definitely check him out! His work is fantastic, and he is just getting the wedding part of his business off the ground, so he is offering some great packages! You can def get something for less than $2K

ITA - we realized that we would rather regret spending money on something than regret not having it at all. When you are spending so much already, you don't want to miss out!

Re: Is a video a must?
I'm definitely glad I'm doing video. My shower went by crazy fast. It was a preview of how quickly the wedding will go by. Video will pick up everything you missed and wasn't able to see. On that note, I chose a vendor bc I was in love with Megan's SDE video from the 2010 brides. They were much more pricey than other videographers. While I still think they're good, none of their videos since have compared to Megan's video, and I may not have booked them bc of price. I assumed all of their videos would be up to that quality. Sometimes I notice the audio during vows isn't smooth with other videos. Megan's video was just perfect, and I didn't realize at the time, that ended up being the video they use to show everyone for advertisement. So we shall see.

Re: Is a video a must?
We weren't going to but then watched his sisters from last year and he got all emotional and said we had to have one... LOL. We got ours thrown in at a good price. It may not be the best high-tech dramatic video and all but it'll capture the moment! From losing so many people important to me in my life, I realized there's nothing more irreplaceable than the sound of someone's voice.

I am not doing video at all. I think it is definitely not a necessity, nor will I miss it. I do not ever see myself sitting down and watching it when I am bored. I know people say you might miss some things, but I really don't care that much. Its not even a money thing for us, we really just don't want one there. Its just another person to add to all of the annoying hassle that will already be going on with photogs and everyone else.

Re: Is a video a must?
I only wanted the ceremony videoed which my photog was going to throw it for us. But my FH wanted the reception to. I didnt mind not having it, but he is set on it. To save money ask for pricing on an unedited video. That's what we are doing to save $$. It makes a HUGE difference in price.

Re: Is a video a must?
I think it is such a big MUST HAVE. It was actually what FH was most excited to book. Photo and video were my TOP priorities.
I love watching old home videos. I have watched my parents' wedding video quite a few times and love that I can do that.
As others have already said, of course you will have pictures, but nothing will be able to capture the memories like a video. Video and pictures are the only tangible things you have left when the day is over.

Re: Is a video a must?
Absolutely not. Technically, aside from a groom and an officiant (and two witnesses) nothing is a must. We didn't have video. I find video to be very expensive and very boring and the videographers are always in the way of the party. Definitely did not miss having a video, though raw footage of the ceremony might've been nice.

this is exactly the reason I am getting a video too
