I found out that my package only includes a DJ. For 100-120 people, I feel I should add the emcee which I was told is $350 extra. I don't want my DJ mixing songs and having to emcee at the same time. Is it worth the extra money for the emcee?

IMO I think an MC is important. They are the ones to keep the party moving. They help set the tone and help with the flow of the party

Well I think that you want one so you should. I don't think that $350 is that much extra. It's worth it not to regret it later.

IMO, I would get the MC. They seem to keep things flowing and keep people on their feet. We have a basic package with a DJ/MC.

if you have a small enough party then i think you would be ok w/o an MC.

Re: Is an emcee needed with my DJ?
i just went to see djs..and to be honest a real party's mood flows based on the music therefore the Dj's, not the MCs. I think for a small party a one man team is sufficient unless you want your MC dancing on the floor animating the guests. honestly if the music is mixing real good and the dj is doing his job right everyone should be hav ing a great time...it doesnt rely all on the MC. with that said, we are still getting an MC since it comes with the package but he is more a coordinator of the reception and announcer rather than party animator. hth! gl

IMO I belive that they are VERY important. A one man team means that your DJ will be mixing all music as well as organizing/coordinating the events during your reception. I definitely think the extra money is worth it...

I have the same issue...I am not using an MC, but I am debating using one. However, I am probably only having lie 70 guests, but I want people on the dance floor and I think that an MC is needed for that.

i think that mostly the MC is more important than the DJ cuz the MC is the one who's gauging your guests on the dance floor whether he needs to pick up more dance music or turn down the volume.

The DJ/MC combo isn't for someone who mixes like a DJ at a club. It's just so one person is constantly concentrating on making sure the music is flowing (not mixing) and the other is the 'host' of sorts, providing the voiceover for the day.
We had a DJ/MC combo and it was only around $1300 (that included the ceremony, CH, and entire reception). We had 110 people at our wedding. I thought it worked out great.
ETA: We're not really 'dancers' in our family, but people still had a lot of fun, dancing when they wanted to, and they loved the music we picked. Most importantly, we loved the music we picked! Our wedding was way more about the food than the dancing to us, but the DJs made sure those who came to dance could (and did) as much as they wanted.

I think I'm making the right decision on getting the MC. Thanks all.
