Is an MC necessary?

Is an MC necessary?

For those of you who are having a DJ, are you going to have an MC as well, or just have the DJ do everything (announcements, etc) from behind the booth?

We are going back and forth on this issue.

Thanks

Well....to be honest... before our wedding I would have said definitely, but now that our wedding has passed and saw what our MC did (nothing!) I'm going to have to say...a big fat NO!

I am having an MC only because when we interviewed the company we watched a video of their work and the MC was awesome. He really made everyone feel comfortable without being cheesy.

We're only having an MC. We're having a fairly small wedding, so we don't need both.

DJ only, who will do announcements.

I think it depends on how much you want the DJ/MC to talk to your guests.

We are having an MC, I feel that it helps to get the party going, however he knows that we DO NOT want him being annoying and dragging people onto the dance floor and doing cheesy stuff.

We're having both an MC and a DJ. They've got it so the DJ will focus on the music and and the MC can 'work' the crowd and make sure the dance floor is full. I wouldn't want just one person to have to do it all, they get stretched too thin and miss out on the lil important details. JMO!

mc keeps the party going...dj is suppose to dj
you get one claims they do both, not so sure about that. there is too much going on that 1 person wouldn't be able to handle. you ladies may want to rethink it. MC is not the one that goes around grabing ppl to get up. that is normally another person.

we actually had 3 ppl...and i was very pleased.
mc/dj/assisant (cause we had viedo screens also)

We are not having an MC, just a DJ. He will make all the announcements from behind the booth. IMO, your crowd will get up and dance if the bride and/or groom are out there having a good time.

We're having less than 100 people, so don't see the need for more than 1 person. Ours is a DJ/MC.

Some of the best weddings that I've been to were that good because of the MC. They keep the party going. IMO the DJ has enough to do with making sure that he plays the right songs at the right time.

My friend is DJing but I really don't want anyone yelling out everything that goes on.

We are having an MC and I think it was because at my sister's wedding there was one and it was the best wedding I'd ever been to but the truth is, with our group of friends and family, I really don't think we need one.

High voltage is doing our wedding and he was telling us that the reason he uses female MC's is because generally the men are the ones sitting and a female (attractive) MC has more pull when asking them to 'get up' than a male telling them to do so. It made perfect sense to me!

In hindsight, I don't think I should've gottten an MC because of my set of family and friends but since music is so important to the both of us, we wanted to be assured that people would be on the dance floor with us both :)
