Is an MC necessary?

Original post by BlueTulip

For those of you who are having a DJ, are you going to have an MC as well, or just have the DJ do everything (announcements, etc) from behind the booth?

We are going back and forth on this issue.

Thanks

I am not having an MC. they are definitely NOT necessary and IMO, just add to the 'cheese' factor that we do not want. A good DJ can do the job without an MC

Good luck

We're having both an MC and a DJ. They've got it so the DJ will focus on the music and and the MC can 'work' the crowd and make sure the dance floor is full. I wouldn't want just one person to have to do it all, they get stretched too thin and miss out on the lil important details. JMO!

Agreed!

My own DJ told me an MC isnt necessary. Remember: a DJ can ALWAYS MC, but an MC cannot DJ

We are having an MC, I feel that it helps to get the party going, however he knows that we DO NOT want him being annoying and dragging people onto the dance floor and doing cheesy stuff.

Same here

I Do not think that an MC adds to the 'cheese factor' in any way. Remember to each their own and you should be mindful of that when you respond.

If you have a good MC it is definately worth it. They can get the crowd motivated if needed. They are able to get more involved in what's going on on the dance floor than the DJ.

Yes thats right.... they will do what you ask them to do (or not do). You put it perfectly to say to be mindful when responding!
