I feel like everyone does. My sister said she'd do my makeup. She is amazing with hair and makeup, though she's never taken any courses or anything. I'm jealous. I love the way she makes me up. Knowing that, I don't know if I can justify paying a lot of money to arrange for someone else to do it. A lot of times, even when people use popular makeup artists, it looks like they are wearing so much makeup to me... Since I perform, I've had professional headshots done before, and the photographer thanked me for not wearing a ton of makeup. My headshots came out great. (I did my own makeup then..just a little light eye makeup and I think tinted chapstick.) I don't know what a typical rate is for makeup, but my best friend just paid $60 for a trial, and she is paying $250 for the wedding... The same day that she paid the $60 for the trial, she had to put down an additional $150 deposit. She said that if she could get 4 of the BMs to get their makeup done by the same woman, she'd only have to pay another $25, rather than another $100. It would be $80 for each of us to get ours done. (But, she didn't push it on me at all, and I would do it for her.) And yes, I want to look amazing on my wedding day...so compared to all the other expenses, it doesn't feel like a ton of money- especially if you know that person is going to make you look fabulous. However, looking at my bank account as I pay off more and more wedding expenses and try to figure out what we can afford in terms of a honeymoon, it feels silly...
Sorry for the rant! Thoughts?

Re: Is anybody not...
My friend is doing it for me. She is amazing with make up.
However, if she wasn't, I would have totally paid for someone to do it cause I don't know the first thing on how to apply (all i wear is eye liner and maybe lip gloss).
But if you know how to do the make up or knows someone who can, then I say, save the money.

Re: Is anybody not...
My friend is doing my hair... we are going to pratice a lot over the next year. If you know you sister makes you look beautiful I think you should save the money. Practice before the wedding and wear it all day to make sure it will last your whole wedding day.

Re: Is anybody not...
I am not.. I hardly wear makeup, so I will do it myself and use more that I normally do, but not be too made up... I have had makeover before or been in weddings where they make me look and feel like Tammy Faye Baker..ugh.. It just isn't me.. I will used that money on my honeymoon!

Re: Is anybody not...
I am going to get mine done because I definitely cant do it well myself and dont have any friends or sisters who are awesome at it either, but if I did I would totally take advantage of that! If youre at all concerned maybe do a few 'trials' with your sis where you wear white and you can test a few different colors, but if you already know you like the way she does it you may as well go for it!

I dont see anything wrong with your sister doing your hair and makeup! especially if you love the way she does it! dont spend the money on makeup and hair that you dont want, have her do it.

Me too! At my trial I felt like there was a lot of makeup on me since I don't really wear much (esp my eyebrows!) plus I got false lashes which I've never done before because I have naturally long lashes, but when I took pics with my SLR camera they looked great (see album). I want to be pampered and be happy with my pro pics so I think it's worth it to spend the money. But if you can get someone to do it just as good for free, go for it!

Re: Is anybody not...
Consider yourself lucky that you have someone who can do your makeup for free that you like- I would save the money for something else. Trying to find someone for hair and make-up has caused me so much stress and $$ wasted on trials I didnt like. On a side note, I think the reason that some makeup artists charge so much money is because some of them have a day job working at a makeup counter and if they are going to take the day off to do makeup for a wedding they want to make sure they are making atleast if not more than what they would have if they went to work and didnt take the day off to do a wedding.

I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward doing my own makeup. Not that I actually really know much about makeup... but I hardly ever wear any, and I figure I should look like ME on my wedding day. On the rare occasion when I do wear makeup, FH usually objects anyway.

Re: Is anybody not...
I haven't decided what to do yet. I am totally getting my hair done because i barely even comb it normally, nevermind style it! lol.....as for makeup, although i don't wear it on a daily basis...i do LOVE to do makeup. But, when i usually do my own its for dramitic effect (like going to a club or something) and i doubt tons of glitter and pink eye shadow would work on my wedding day.
At the same time, i don't wanna spend $60 a TRIAL and then end up not liking what they do....I have heard of girls going to a makeup counter at Macy's or where-ever and then just paying for the makeup that they used. I'm thinking about doing that, cause at least for the $$ you are leaving with your makeup done AND the makeup! I dunno if that is done with the pros used on this board or not.
If you have a friend or sister who does your hair or makeup well and you love it, SAVE THE MONEY! Why pay for it when you know you love the free work? Just do a few trials a week or so before the wedding!
Good luck, you will look beautiful no matter what you choose!!!

Re: Is anybody not...
I may not do professional hair since the style I want is half up and curls which I do by myself all the time...
I say just practice with your sister and see how it come up in photos!

Re: Is anybody not...
I'm really good with makeup and did mine and a few other girls in the bridal party at a friends wedding. I'd rather pay someone else to do it because I don't want to deal with a thing that day, but if you're sister's really good then go for it...the only thing i also get concerned with is makeup coming off, since pros kind of know the tip and techniques for lost lasting makeup.

I would have done my own too, because I never let anyone do mine. All my friends actually ask me to do it for them when they have where to go, but I wanted airbrush and gel eye liner for the day of..because I don't want to cry or sweat it all off lol

I think if you're confident with what she does for you and you're happy with how it photographs, then save the money. It's all about what YOU think.

Re: Is anybody not...
I am having my friend who just got her cosmetology licence to do it....if she didn't have her licence I would of done it myself. Don't let anyone put you down about having a non-professional doing it. If anyone needs a good deal on someone to do their make-up or hair let me know my friend is really good with prices.

ITA there's nothing wrong with your sister doing your makeup esp if YOU like the way she makes you look already therefore its a guarantee that you will like your outcome. I will be having my aunt do my makeup she looks very similar to me and I love the way she makes me look as well.
