Is anyone...

Is anyone...

not getting a groom's cake?? I really want to get one but when I think about spending 500 dollars on a cake when there are so many other things to get I get kinda confused. I was thinking about maybe just getting his favorite type of cake with no special design or anything so he has something special, just not something crazy expensive. What do you guys think?

Re: Is anyone...

no, I don't plan on getting one. If anything, maybe I'll do something at the rehearsal dinner but I think it would go to waste at the wedding.

I am getting one but not for the wedding.... Im gonna get him a Mets one for the rehearsal dinner... I feel he will get to enjoy it more at the RD rather than the reception...

Look for a local bakery that is willing to make the cake... they will most likely be cheaper than the big name bakeries that specialize in wedding cakes

Re: Is anyone...

I was going to do it at the rehearsal too...definately not at the wedding because hopefully my wedding cake will be gorgeousssss and I won't want the attention off of it at all. LoL

A groom's cake is supposed to be a cake that is made to reflect the groom's interests in some way. Apparently back sometime somewhere, the tradition started that all female guests would take a thin slice of the cake home and sleep with it under their pillow that they would dream of their future husband. SInce then its kinda just become an extra surprise for the groom. I like the idea but they are wayyy to expensive.

Re: Is anyone...

Definitely not... I have LOTS of other things I can spend $500 on!

And actually I've never seen a groom's cake at any of the weddings I've been to.

Re: Is anyone...

It's a southern tradition, originally, so we are not getting one. I have never, in 35 years, been to a wedding, even in VA, that had one. NO ONE expects it, and few will even know what it is.

Re: Is anyone...

I wasn't going to get one at all... but now that I see how much of a surprise I can do for FH at the RD...hmm...maybe I will. But, I will totally bake it myself! I will pick up a cake mold or something. No way am I spending hundreds on a cake when FH isn't a big fan of sweets! LOL. None the less, if I bake it myself it's more from the heart...

I baked ours for our E-party. I used two large heart shaped cake molds ... cut them somewhat in the middle, towards the bottom, and had them adjoining ... with our wedding colors of corse. It can out soo nice... but when my MOH was trying to write all pretty on it...she ran out of ICING!! AUGH...so that came out a bit sloppy.. Oh well..ALL of it was gone anywhos! LOL

Re: Is anyone...

this is definitely not a necessity, if you dont want to get one don't feel you have to.

I was going to get DH one, but then for our own cake we did a big six layer cake and thought its better off to just have that. Trust me that the day of its not something that is missed

Re: Is anyone...

We may...especially if it's gluten free. FH is allergic. Not looking forward to the cake.

I'm definitely not......we can use the money for something more important plus my FH hates all sweets especially cake!!!
