Re: Are You A Paralegal?
Also not a paralegal...sorry, just wanted to respond!
Although I know someone that recently became one and she seemed happy last time we spoke. Her goal was to become an attorney and this seems like 'training' for that. Early court house appointments, lots of filing and research according to her.
Good luck!

Oh you girls are so sweet!
SomethingBlu: Thank you so much for your response! Although I do not want to become a lawyer, the profession seems very interesting to me. I am curious to learn more about it.....
Thank you!

Re: IS ANYONE A Paralegal?
Im a legal secretary which is very similar i just dont have the paralegal schooling. I just have to say if you you go into this profession, make sure its with a law firm that practices interesting law. Im going to be honest, but i hate being a legal secretary. I actually started to go to nassau to get a paralegal degree, but I only lasted one and a half months. Too boring for me. Thats JMO.

Re: IS ANYONE A Paralegal?
I was a paralegal for 5 years then switched over to being an executive assistant.
I started at Legal Aid, made no money but it was strictly 9-5, then switched to the big name firms for the $. There you work many hours for many people depending on the cases you're assigned. The $ can be great with overtime but I ending up hating it since I didn't have much of a life. You also have to deal with attorneys and there are some that don't treat you so nice since you are just 'support staff'. After too many late nights and just not feeling respected I left and switched over to exec assistant. The $ & hours were better, I only work for one person and the job is similar - organizing files, calendar, etc. I always worked in litigation so other areas/firms may be different for a paralegal. In smaller firms you may also get more responsibility and get a chance to go to court. At my firm, only partners went to court, even 3rd years didn't have the chance!!! Good luck in whatever you decide. I also went to Nassua for this
Let me know if you need any more info

I am a current paralegal and just to piggy back off what Donna said, the money can be GREAT! I am at a Mid-Sized Firm and make a good living without the OT. At points it can be really BORING and other times it can be really STRESSFUL! Right now I am on a trial and I have literally done 35 hours of OT this past week and it is very high paced right now. If you have any questions you need answered feel free to FM me!

Re: is anyone a Paralegal?
I'm a legal secretary in a personal injury firm. I basicly do everything that paralegals did in my past firms that I have worked in. I prepare legal documents like Summon and Complaint, Bill of Particulars, Responses, set up court dates, set up Dr's appointments..ect. I started as a file clerk 12 years ago. I love my job not because of the work but because of my bosses...they are the BEST. I know I can make more money in the city but I rather be close to home and enjoy coming in to work.
