Re: is anyone a vet on here
aww, gina i'm so sorry. i just lost a cat a year ago to that very thing. i know exactly how horribly heartbreaking that is. my other cat, maggie, moped, didn't eat and became very jumpy for a long time. the slightest noises scared her, she hid a lot, slept A LOT and really was really really sad. depressed, just like we were. in my experience it's definitely normal. maggie took a long time to really recover and required a lot of our attention! ... of course, if you're worried, because i'm sure you're looking at your cat worried... you can always take him just to make yourself feel better. i send you lots of hugs!!! and FM any time if you want to talk! i know how sad this is.

Aww...so sorry to hear about your cat....
I'm sure the brother cat is affected by the loss as well....but if you are overly concerned it might be something else, I'd call the vet.
Hang in there!

Re: is anyone a vet on here
Awwwwwww Im so sorry Gina!!
I feel like animals know when another animal in the house is missing and also becomes depressed. When FH's other dog was gone, the one dog was sad and almost acted like he didnt know what to do without the other dog (almost like he was lost). It took like a little over a week for his behavior to improve. I think its normal, but if you really feel like something is wrong- then I would take your cat to the vet to make sure...just in case.

Re: is anyone a vet on here
I'm sorry to hear that!!
But one of my close friends, one of her cats passed away and she had to go and get another cat because her other cat was not acting the same and the vet told her that it was because the other cat wasn't there anymore, so I guess it is true that they can be heartbroken!

Re: is anyone a vet on here
Hi,I'm a vet tech and i can tell you that it does happen when one pet passes away that the other does feel it or knows something happened.
My cat died if the same kidney issues he was 19.
Your other pet just may need time to heal- just like you and your family do. If you need piece of mind, by all means take him to the vet. If you need a good reputable, inexpensive vet i can give you their information.
FM if you need any help or suggestions or if you just need to talk.
Take Care.

Re: is anyone a vet on here
Im so sorry!! I def. think cats (all animals really) can be heartbroken. Try just being there for him...try playing with him or just petting him and loving him....he just misses his friend.

So sorry about your loss. Pets do get depressed. Try doing some online research on how to cheer up your sad kitty.

I am a vet and agree with the above. However, not eating can lead to other problems especially in bigger cats. There are also many other reasons for not eating. I would recommend you get him seen by a vet to make sure he is doing ok medically.
FM with any questions!
