Is anyone buying china?

Is anyone buying china?

So, things are flying off my registry EXCEPT for my china and my bedding. FH and I REALLY want our china - in fact, he's more into our china than I am!

Anyone else wanna share their china-on-the-registry stories? Did people buy it?

Thanks!!!

If we don't get ours we'll probably just complete it after the wedding...we get a discount up to 90 days after so hopefully there won't be much to buy.

sometimes the BP chips in and they get it for you. If they dont you prob will get tons of giftcards and then maybe you can get it.

We purposely registered for china that was less expensive because we were concerned that most people wouldn't spend 100 dollars for a gift for the shower. Our place settings were 50 dollars each. All of our china/accessories were complete for the shower! =)
Some table accessories were over 100, but they were still bought. People who only wanted to spend 50 could still get us our place setting and people who were closer to us, got more than 1 place setting or a table accessory (gravy boat, platter, etc.).

Usually parents, in-laws, grandparents, or close aunts purchase the china. At the showers I have been to in the past, aunts and grandparents have done the bulk of it.

We were having this problem too. My mom the nut that she is actually went out and bought us 4 entire place settings (upwards of $700) and then DF's aunt actually bought us 4 dinner plates and 4 dessert plates. We wound up exchanging some of the pieces like the coffee cup and saucer and a bowl we didn't really like and got different bowls and a $300 caphlon pots and pans set instead. I realized after the shower that a lot of the things we registered for (mind you we registered for EVERYTHING online) wasn't what we thought so we were able to use that money for other things, where you may be able to use yours for the china.

Normally your close family or bridal party will chip in to get you the china. I registered for china that I knew I'd love and that wouldn't break the bank. Hopefully someone who is really close will purchase some for you and if not, you can complete whatever you don't get later.

I actually had problems with it. I put china on registry and only got one set bc it was 125. So the other day in macys I saw a mikasa set that we both liked and yesterday with a coupons went to macys and purchased 12 setting. They were less then fifty each after coupon

A couple of my firends chipped in and got me a few of my place settings...after the wedding at holiday time, my MIL and SIL asked us what we wanted and they got us all our remaining place settings. Your registry is up for a year after your wedding and they will send you many discount opportunities to close it out so don't worry Also if you chose Lenox don't forget about the outlet in Riverhead Tanger!! My MIL went there this past weekend and bought us two serving platters and 3 accent plates as an early anniversary gift at much less then dept store prices!

OOH! Thanks for the Lenox tip! I totally forgot about the outlet! I did register for Lenox Opal Innocence - it's 172 a place setting! YIKES! But it goes on sale at Macy's ALL the time - right now, it's down to 119 but I've seen it as low as 68, since I'm a registry stalker!

Most of our place settings were purchased in the week prior to the shower--we're still waiting on about half of the place settings, but we're expecting to receive a couple at our wedding pretty soon.

I decided not to register for expensive china and got nice lennox casual dishes. We're more casual people.

We purposely registered for our china before Christmas and my FMIL and FH's grandmas took care of 6 place settings already and my mom gave us another one.

I dont know if you registered for Lenox but my mom has been going to the outlet and buying us alot of second quality serving pieces. Whenever she sees a piece we dont have yet out there

Whatever we dont get we are going to finish the registry after the wedding since it will be discounted

I registered for Waterford china. My father bought us 4 of our place settings as an engagement gift when we got engaged. My birthday is in August, then there's Christmas, and that's all before my shower will even take place. If I don't get all of my pieces by the wedding, we get the discount off the registry, plus any coupons or sales that Macy's is offering. I also am a Macy's cardholder, so I get the star rewards and get a percentage back on everything purchased off of the registry.

DH's family helped out for the shower, we bought the rest with gift cards with the registry completion and sales

Re: Is anyone buying china?

I originally did not register for any china, then my mom came to visit and talked me into a nice Noritake setting to put on my registry. I did not get one place setting between my shower or wedding and that was fine for me. We were given mostly cash and I preferred not to spend it on fine china at this time.

We are pretty casual and I decided that if I want it in the future, I will give myself permission to purchase it then. Plus it's less to store living in an apartment, for now. Do what works best for you, there are no hard, fast rules.

Re: Is anyone buying china?

If each place setting is very expensive, people are less likely to buy them. For that reason, I chose a pattern that was on the cheaper side, but still beautiful IMO (Mikasa Parchment)... each place setting was a little over $50. We ended up getting every single piece we registered for... and not just from parents and immediate family... a lot of friends and other family members bought them.

we only got 2 setting of our china. My mom is buying 2 for our bdays and then DH and I are going to buy 4 other setting (so we will have 8 total) and then worry about all the accessories at another time.
