I know people dont like to think of these because it means they think their relationship could possibly end...
...BUT I was wondering if there was a cheap way to download a form, have it signed and notarized and be done with it?
Do we have to get lawyers involved?
I just want whatever was ours BEFORE the marriage to be ours if, god forbid, we get divorced some day.

We will eventually get to doing Pre-nups...but more to protect our assets for business purposes...we each have our own companies and it prevents people from suing and gaining personal property, or something like that, or so our lawyers said...my friend is a lawyer and doing mine...
..something everyone should think about too....a Living Will for hospitalization and what kind of efforts you want made if you end up in a coma or something, I still have to do mine...not fun stuff to think about but better to have it discussed beforehand
Actually FH wanted to do this ~ he has his own company (started before I came in the picture) I told him #1 he will never get a divorce from me - he said even if I cheated on you...I said even if you cheat on me ~ divorce would make it easy I would prefer to torture him no really ~ we were thinking of doing one to cover his business as well - I just told him if it doesnt work out and we have children down the line ~ I want them taken care of! We might do one!

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?
We are not doing one....
I would do research on it...because each agreement is different, there might be a standard form available, but I would do the research!
maybe you have an atty in family/friends to discuss it with?

FH has said that he wants one for future earnings (he's gonna be a dr) but I told him absolutely NOT!!! I'm supporting him now and if, go forbid, we do get divorced and he has money - i want some!!!! He owes me
right so you stand by his side thru medical school-you should be entitled to something-

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?
this is a GREAT, question..personally we aren't doing one, but we spoke about it...more importantly we are doing the living will, health care proxy and one other thing that has slipped my mind at this moment that is very important.......(i heard it on suze orman)...basically its important to stipulate if god forbid something should happen before you have children you dont want all you have going to the state!!! so make sure you specify who you would like your assests to go to....thats what we are securing until we have children then it all goes to them! again...great question!!!

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?
I know we're not getting divorced EVER! I told him he is stuck with me for the rest of his life and he said I am stuck with him. We save everything together and I would never ask for anything from him-but I would give him everything. I'm not materialistic. I need a cardboard box and some newspaper-I would be fine just living in the woods with nothing but the love of my life.

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?
No, neither one of us really have any money to have to argue over but if you feel you should then go for it. I think it needs to be drawn up by a lawyer though.

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?
we talked about it and we both agreed that if we had something (money, investments, whatever) before we got married then it would be worth it to get a prenup but since neither of us has any money or assets...it doesn't mean we don't love each other and that our marriage won't work..all it means is that we're practical and living in the real world and protecting ourselves so that if a divorce does happen, no battles will ensue because we'll have everything set.

No pre-nup, but all of the above is def taken care of. It's sad b/c it took something very close to home for us to do this, but it's done. My children (god forbid) will be taken care of, as well as my self, and FH if anything happened to any of us.
ETA: good point to make out

We got all of our info from out life insurace.(we have about 5 total, for all of usand both our parents) It does't have to be, but for security purposes we did ours through a lawyer. Janet, posted a link to how to get paper work for these kind of situations
