Is anyone doing a prenup?

Is anyone doing a prenup?

I know people dont like to think of these because it means they think their relationship could possibly end...

...BUT I was wondering if there was a cheap way to download a form, have it signed and notarized and be done with it?

Do we have to get lawyers involved?

I just want whatever was ours BEFORE the marriage to be ours if, god forbid, we get divorced some day.

the issue was discussed but neither of us felt comfortable with the idea.

That is so funny, all we have is tons of school debt.

If we get divorced, can he have it it all?!

my current kingdom consists of 10K in student loan debt, mind you I graduated in 1998, 2 cats and a leased Toyota..

Mike can have it all if he wants, well mabe not the cats so I should have some kind of custody agreement drawn up.

Mel are you trying to figure out who has $$$$ on this site so you can befriend them and invite them to your wedding you lil' devil

You guys are jerks!

FH and I have had the same job with the same pay since college. I chose to invest all of my savings, he chose to buy a BMW.

I dont think its a matter of being 'comfortable', its a matter of being practical.

You never know, you could hit the lottery one day and you're going to want 1/2 of those winnings if you get divorce.

Nevermind
I suppose this is too gloomy for a Friday..

...back to fun wedding planning!

Not doing one. I have 100K almost in student loan debt from law school. FH only has 10K right now from school and he's planning on going back. I have no problem with them but I only have a few ivestments and nothing is savings so everything that will accumulate will probably be during the marriage. I have no problem with equitable distrubition.

lol the only thing we would fight over in case of divorce would be the dog.

and he's MINE!

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?

Call me naive because I AM but we never even discussed it and I don't think the idea ever even entered our minds. I think everyone deserves their own feelings on it and can do whatever they want but honestly, that's what happened with me: never even crossed our minds.

I guess now that I think about it: he would walk away with a couple of Coach bags and two chinchillas LOL but I'm not giving up their cage and wheel without a fight!!! Seriously, we would fight over the dog-- I would want her. LOL I can't believe I'm thinking this hahahaha

but I don't know about drawing up a simple one-- I think it would need to be something that a lawyer would have to do. Maybe you can get a lawyer to do a very simple form...?

Well technically a prenup doesn't cover you for what you 'make' when u are married. it only protects ur assets that u have b4 u are married. If you win the lottery and u are married already then by law he is entitled to half, if u win it now and u sign the prenup then u are protected... its kinda weird and there are so many loopholes that it just not worth it.

omg what kind of dog is this???!?! he or she is too cute! i want one!

and to answer the question- we wont do a prenup - neither of us have anything to our name but his parents own three houses and he is an only child. I promised that should anything happen between us, i will leave him with atleast one house - j/k!!!
i told him that i would be fair- the house we buy together is mine- and he could have his parents estates... but we dont like to think about that stuff...

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?

We will eventually get to doing Pre-nups...but more to protect our assets for business purposes...we each have our own companies and it prevents people from suing and gaining personal property, or something like that, or so our lawyers said...my friend is a lawyer and doing mine...

..something everyone should think about too....a Living Will for hospitalization and what kind of efforts you want made if you end up in a coma or something, I still have to do mine...not fun stuff to think about but better to have it discussed beforehand

FH has said that he wants one for future earnings (he's gonna be a dr) but I told him absolutely NOT!!! I'm supporting him now and if, go forbid, we do get divorced and he has money - i want some!!!! He owes me

Re: Is anyone doing a prenup?

Good question. I think it's a good idea, but we don't have anything. Everything we had, went into the house we bought together, so if we broke up, we would sell it and split it 50/50.
