the Father-Daughter dance?? I think this is the only part of the wedding day I am nervous about... and I don't really know why.
I'm afraid it's going to be really extremely awkward I guess. I'm not very affectionate with my father and though we have danced before, this is totally different. I know that he is very sad about me 'leaving' him (I'm very much a daddy's girl) but he show it in strange ways.
I've seen other father daughter dances and they are always very affectionate, tear jerking and sweet... I don't think ours will be that way....
I'm just worried it's going to look really awkward!! Anyone else concerned about this part??

I am nervous about this part as well! I am very close to my father, but I dont think we have ever danced together before!! We have a fun playful relationship, he is my friend, we arent overly affectionate either. I am also afraid to cry through the whole thing, and I think he will cry as well because its 'our' moment. I hope it goes by fast lol but when its over i am sure we will be sad.

I am having the DJ invite other father/daughter pairs to dance with us about midway through - I just don't want to be on the dance floor all alone with my daddy the whole time! (I will totally cry!)

WOW...I cant believe this is a post...because I have been soooo nervous about this...because of the affectionate thing, but also for a completely other reason. Due to an illness, my dad has trouble walking... I am so scared that we are gonna trip and fall and that the whole dance we will just be concentarting on not tripping. MY Dad never ever dances at weddings because of his illness, so I have never danced with him. OH my God, I really get nauseaus just thinking of this.

It's your wedding!!! Try not to stress about that part. That's a great part of the wedding. Maybe you won't even think of it the day of and you'll just dance with him without even thinking about it. GL

I'm very nervous about this also. I really don't like slow dancing in general not even with FH- I feel akward. I'm not very touchy feeling with my folks even an ocasional hug is a little weird for me. I don't know how I'm going to do this without it looking weird.

I was nervous about that too, trying to avoid the whole cryhing thing, so I picked a song that was short and lively 'Isn't She Lovely'. He cried anyway, but it was kept to a low roar!

I was kinda nervous- not really nervous but felt akward. I am totally not affectionate with my dad and dont think we really ever danced- I am not a Daddy's girl either.
But we fixed the situation by doing a Parent's Dance, where FH danced with his mom and I danced with my dad to our parent's wedding songs (1/2 and 1/2).

That explains me and my dad too! I'm nervous about the dance and about the ride to the church when it is just the two of us.

Mine will be awkward but for a different reason. My father passed away this past February. I'll be dancing with my Godfather who is my Uncle (father's brother).
Be thankful you have the opportunity to dance with your father. It will be a special moment you will always remember, despite the ups and downs your relationship.

Me too. I am glad that I am not the only one. I thought about playing a more upbeat song to avoid any awkward tender moments.

I'm a daddy's girl, I fully admit it. But we NEVER dance and we don't say 'I LOVE YOU' all the time .. we just are great buddies, hard to expalin. However the TWO most nerve-wracking moment for me are what you just described. I was nearly bawling in the limo ride over to the church, and got teary during the father/daugher dance.. My dad kept trying to crack jokes during the dance and I didn't bawl, but there was finally that moment when we both lost it a bit...
They are probably some of my favorite pics, though

I might skip it altogether. My dad & I are very close, but in a goofy friends kinda way.
Seriously, I'd rather do a shot with him, than slow dance to some sappy song.
I figure we may skip having an offical dance, and will probably end up doing some silly dance together at some point.
We used to square dance together when I wa sin Girl Scouts, so that's what I told my friends wer are going to do. . .
What I am worried about is FMIL. SHe is overly sentimental & touchy & I think she will feel excluded if we don't do a mother-son dance, but that would be really awkard, b/c FH barely wants to dance with me & dancing with his mother would be really forced.
We were actually going to leve out a lot of traditons, b/c orriginally we wern't havigna traditional reception, but it keeps becomign more & more traditional & Fh's family keeps saying, 'but you have to do that. . .' to different things, so I think we are going to loose this battle.
Yup, I am totally nervous about it. I am not really close to my dad because we just dont communicate that well. So that dance is going to be the longest 4 minutes of my life but it will be special.

Im not so affectionate w/ my parents either.....its really horrible--they actually make fun of me for it.....so yes, its gonna be quite awkward, its one of the things Im thinking most about......I hate crying in front of people and the whole dancing and hugging and crying as everyone watches kinda makes me feel very vunerable and stupid.....but on a happier note.....we really should just be thankful our dads will/can be w/ us on our day!

Re: Is anyone else a little nervous about...
I'm a little nervous only because my dad wants to do a waltz and although he leads very well, he also throws in his own steps. I'm sure it will be fine, I'm just worried about looking clumsy. AND I'M NOT!!!
