so may people are responding NO to your shower? This is my fear, that all my family, friends, and 'in law' family will be 'busy' and there will be like 20 people there out of like 70 invited

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
Not to make you crazy, but that happened with mine. Most of my family was there, but only a very select few from FH's side. It was really sad, most of them didn't even RSVP and then when FH called them they all had something to do. I know he was upset about it too.

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
It's still nice with less people! We didn't get many Nos for my shower but the ones we did get were stupid excuses. Oh well, still a nice day! And some who don't come will send a gift.

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
My shower was on a BAD weekend for people because it was palm sunday and a lot of people were away visiting for easter etc.
So anyway they invited like 55 and only about 30 came.. it was still SO nice though

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
I am afraid fo this! My shower list was 65, and one person, who is sorta involved in a little of the planning said 'Only half the people will show' This was told to me last week, my shower is a week from this Sunday (4/30).
Also, I know of 3 people that will not be there, 2-b/c they mailed me gifts and 1-b/c FH told me.

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
40 people were invited to mine - 15 showed up. Needless to say it was a little disappointing b/c the family that couldn't make it to mine were those that I always went out of my way to go travel and see.

it will be nice if small.. and its true - those who cant come still send a gift (to show they care about you) - its sad at first, but the day will be fun with those there!!

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
My family already has it calculated that there will only be @ 20 people attending my shower based on the number of OOT people, and the 10-15% no response rate.

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
I'm afraid that is already happening with mine. We invited 52 people & so far the list is at 14 with a lot of no's (although mom said many have said they will drop off a gift).

about 50 were invited and 45 showed up. not a bad turnaround, it should have been more but 2 of my 'friends' ditched at the last minute. they didn't even send gifts!

I know this is not going to be a popular answer - but here it goes...
I hate going to showers! I only go if there is no way for me to get out of going - ie: a close close friend or family member.
I prefer to just send a gift. The idea of sitting there watching someone open a hundred gifts - that she has picked out by registering - is mind numbing to me.

well im hoping the people invited to mine care enough about me to not feel that way. I appreciate going to other peoples showers bc i know that the persons shower i was invited to is someone close and special to me. Sorry JMO

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
Don't worry! My FMIL threw a shower for me in Boston, and I had never even met most of the people that were invited (almost all FH's side). Almost everyone came, even FH's very elderly great aunts who basically had to rest-up for a week prior in order to be up to attending the shower. I never imagined they would come, and was so thrilled that they did.
Regardless of how many people come to your shower, it will be a totally overhwelming and amazing day!

Well I think it is more about supporting the bride and being there with her during her happy time. I dont think its all about presents and I think it is sorta sad that you choose not to share in someone elses joy.. JMO

Re: Is anyone else afraid that....
I had a list of 65 and 40 came. Many sent gifts. I was very happy with the turn out. Even with 40 people, there was an element of intimacy and comfort that I really enjoyed.
In regard to supporting a bride. Years back, I had to go to a shower about 3 weeks after a 4 year relationship of mine had ended. A dear friend's new life was about to begin and mine (in my head) had ended. But I put on a happy face, and sat through this shower which tugged at every heart string I had left to support my friend. When she called me (before her shower that she didnt know about) I told her all was well so her happy time was not ruined.
Guess what, she was my MOH, and made my planning, shower and bachelorette party a wonderful experience and I am positive it was because she was truly happy for us - not because she felt an obligation. This is what friends do.
