My FH's parents are divorced and both are remarried. So I get two FMIL's and two FFIL's. The FIL's are no problem, they are both great people and I love them. The FMIL's are a different story altogether. FH's mom is so dettached and distant. She has made no real effort to get to know me or to be any part of FH and my life beyond the normal holidays and birthdays. But FH's step mom is so wonderful. She wants us to be an active part of hers and FFIL's life, takes the time to talk to me, has invited me out for girls dinners, etc... I was just wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation?

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting Two FMIL's
I am!! And my FH's biological mother also has not really tried to get to know me to much either, and we have been together 5 years! FH's stepmother is hot and cold....she loves me at the moment, but her moods shift rapidly. I feel your pain!!

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting Two FMIL's
Sorry to crash. I am in the same boat. FH's real mom plays the martyr all the time. We stay away. She is remarried to a pig who thinks that he is Tony Soprano. We haven't seen them in at least 6 mths. FH's dad and step-mom are AMAZING. They treat me like a daughter. I am very close to his two sisters from his dad & step-mom. We are all around the same age and are very good friends. We want to ask his step-mom to light the unity candle along w/ my mom.

I am!
Is this a pattern???
FH's dad re-married and his mom didn't. I LOVE his step-mom! She is amazing--always very welcoming and loving to us and generous and goes out of her way. We went on vacation to Florida (they live there) and his dad and step-mom got us a little condo on the beach for a week and refused to let us pay for things. His mom, on the other hand, is hot and cold--we try to involve her in things, but she never wants to join us and will constantly try to pull a guilt trip on us.

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting Two FMIL's
for me its the other way around...FH's parents are the most amazing people in the world...i love them and they love me (even though they dont speak one word of English...and i know like 4 Polish words), but my mom is sooooooooooo cold to FH. She's always been that way (not very emotional and involved), and she doesnt show much interest in us getting married. I'm getting married in like 3 wks, and i havent seen or spoken to her in about a month. FH is a bit nervous, because even though he has accepted the fact that thats just how she is...he is afarid that his parents will feel unlike ....trust me I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL

I am too. FH's dad remarried and she is a lovely lady. FH's mom is dating a really great guy. I have tried to keep his step mom and mom involved in the whole wedding planning process. My dilema is this, how do I do something nice for his stop mom at the wedding without hurting his mom.

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting Two FMIL's
I loved my husband's mother, but she died of breast cancer a few weeks after we got engaged. I'm really, really sorry she never became my mother-in-law. She could be a serious pain in the ***, but I like that in a person!
My FiL is apparently still married to his second wife, but she's out of the picture. He lives with a woman I really like, and I should get to know better, even though she's not officially my 'mother-in-law.'
