Everyone seems to be having nice RDs. Is anyone having a casual one - as in jeans and heros?

Re: Is anyone else having a 'casual' RD?
We were going to have a very casual RD at the Olive Garden, but they're unable to work with our time schedule, so we've turned it into a 'not-so-casual' RD at the New Hyde Park Inn.
I've seen some really great casual RD. Someone posted one in their review where they had a BBQ at the hotel...it looks so comfortable and fun! Go for it!
I've read about a bunch of casual RD. Some were BBQ's and some were just dinner at someone's hose

we did, we had it at a bar restaurant, buffett, very casual clothing and no formal invites, we did that by word of mouth

We did and it was great! We would have enjoyed a nice sit down meal in a restaurant but since my parents, DH & I were footing the bill for EVERYTHING else & MIL wasn't chipping in...it just wasn't in our budget.
All of the OOTs were pretty relieved too since they didn't have to worry about what to wear...jeans, khakis, a polo whatever! It was nice & laid back which gave folks (a lot of whom didn't know one another) a change to mingle.
We had it at my parents house & it was catered by an Italian restaurant we love and had a selection of Penne Alla Vodka, Chicken Picatta, Eggplant Rollatini, Cesear, 4 foot hero (fresh roast turkey, roasted red peppers, greens & fresh mozz on ciabatta mmmm), plus dessert for $350. It served 25 with TON of leftovers so I can't complain!

We had a morning rehearsal, not a night time one so we just did bagels and such.
It was very low key -- and since it was all buffet it didn't matter if a few extra guests showed up.

That's a relief. Mine is being done at my house and we're having a hero and salads and some italian dishes but nothing crazy.

We are having at our apartment and serving heroes and salad as well - we are just too tapped to do anything else!!! Besides we cannot do a rehearsal b/c we are getting married at the catering hall so this is just a way for us to give out the gifts and thank everyone!

Re: Is anyone else having a 'casual' RD?
Ugh - I WANTED a completely casual RD. MY MIL insisted on the stuffy, blah upstairs room @ the Wantagh Inn......I wanted everyone to just be hanging out, eating, drinking, having a good time .......I'm jealous you're going to be casual !!! I wish I had been more pushy about mine. - OH well !!

I am having heros, ziti and salads at my moms house. Oh, and wine and cheese and all that kind of stuff of course. That's just the kind of people we are. No need for expensive dinner in a restaurant.

That's exactly what we're doing just at my house.

Re: Is anyone else having a 'casual' RD?
I would have preferred a BBQ. Unfortunaltey, my family and DH family are all out of state or out of country and we just did not have a place to do it. We ended up having it at an Italian retaurant. Not too fancy, dressy casual. The whole prupose of a RD is for the 2 families to mix and mingle. What better way than at a BBQ?
