Is anyone else only paper training their puppy?

I really don't want to be taking Scooby out for his potty needs. He's good most of the time, but when he has an accident I wonder if it's really going to work. We have him 4 weeks now and he's a 4 1/2 month old Maltese.

Re: Is anyone else only paper training their puppy?

Chewie only goes inside on the paper. Hes little, 8 pds. and will only be 12 pds so hes small enough to do this. He is fully trained now and 5 months old. I wasn't sure if it would work either. It only took 2 months too! He hops in a dog litter tray we bought for him w/ newspaper and goes in there everytime. When we saw he was sniffing and circling we would say 'paper' and bring him over. Once he went in there and went potty we would give him Cheerios (he LOVES them!) as a reward. Its funny cause now he goes on the paper and stands and waits for a Cheerio. We let him run outside in the backyard to exercise but don't ever have to walk him to go to the bathroom. Its great!

Re: Is anyone else only paper training their puppy?

i'm training Casey - she goes on the paper bc she can't hold it when she is in the crate overnight or sometimes during the day - but for the most part she already knows to go outside. I wish I could train her with a litter box but she will soon be a 60lb full grown Golden Retriever!

Brooklyn goes on the wee wee pads. We live on the third floor...he is not going outside, lol. He prefers to go on the couch but most of the time it is the wee wee pad.

Re: Is anyone else only paper training their puppy?

We trained Tortellini on puppy pads. He seemed to do well w/ them even in the beginning, although he may miss once in a great while even though he is meaning to aim for the pad. We try to double the pads up.
