Is anyone else tired of famous people being treated special by the media?
Here's what I mean:
Clinton's bypass surgery. It's all over the news. As if he's the first person in history to have this surgery. Report the story-that's fine. But why are we making a big deal out of this. On friday over a hundred children died in Russia and all I could find on the 15 news channels was how Clinton had to have surgery.
I am so tired of famous people being treated as if when things happen to them it's a bigger deal then when the average person has them happen. I'd have to guess that hundreds-if not thousands- of people have bypass surgery a day. Why make such a big deal out of Clinton?
It's like when hollywood couples break up and people talk about it and the media makes it a big story. People get divorced everyday. Why should I feel badly for the famous people? Why are they any better then the people that I am close with that have marriage difficulties.
It just makes me sick and I had to vent.

If this was someone different (ie a hollywood star) I would agree with you. But this is not your run of the mill average famous person. Like it or not Bill Clinton was the President of the United States, the leader of the free world for christs sake! Its almost like complaining about the amount of attention that Ronald Reagans funeral got (and how many services there were).
It's like when hollywood couples break up and people talk about it and the media makes it a big story. Two VERY VERY different things you are talking about here. Give me a break.

...I am very sad and mourning for the children who were killed...innocent children....
I am following Clintons Surgery to the extent that he had it and is expecting a full recovery. I did think it was a bit much when the media was asking STUPID *** Questions----Example: What were his first words when he woke up? Ok, stupid idiot, who cares...really..who does...its not like he had just woken up from a coma, he had one of the more standard procedures ever.....keep him in your thoughts (along with the innocent children)? yes....Dwell and live on it..NO...
Just my 2 cents!

I know Clinton is not the best example, but I was just using him as a recent example. It happens with many people in the public eye. Like the Olsen twin that has an eating disorder. It was all over the news for days, her update was everywhere. Why do I care? I have 2 friends that have eating disorders-this is nothing new to me.
And ex-president or not I still don't think it needs this much media attention. Report that he's having the surgery, give us the clip of Hillary talking about it, and then give us his status. There are so many more important things going on in this world right now.
And I was only giving the hollywood couple break ups as another example. Not at all saying they are the same thing.

That is exactly how I feel.

I thikn the media caters to the wants of the public as far as the celebrities go... The public wants to know! Look at all the TV shows that cater to them and their money, what they buy and their love histories...It is insane them amount of shows are about them...but they do well for a reason...We want to know everything about them! Look how long the Enquirer and Star have been around, if sales weren't doing so good they would have disappeared! So IMO we only have ourselves to blame

I agree with this as well. The media gives what the majority of the public wants. Unfortunately I'm not a part of the majority with this.

Well, think of it this way....what does it say about our country that we've allowed those people to rise to that status? But I guess that's a whole 'nother topic.

I agree...I am sick of seeing what Oprah or JLo does with their money and the houses they buy or the jewelry they wear...gets depressing

I just realized how I should not have even responded to this because where I live there was NO coverage AT ALL of this, we had 24 hour coverage of Hurricane Frances since Thursday. I don't know what was said, who said it or how often they said it so I am sorry for jumping the gun.

No problem, no hard feelings here.
