Is anyone else too poor to buy a friggin wedding band???

Is anyone else too poor to buy a friggin wedding band???

We were thinking of buying a cheaper wedding band before the wedding just so we'd have something for the I Do's (like, 200 bucks tops for both rings from Macy's or Kay's) and then after the wedding, when we get some money, buy the rings we really want (we won't be spending that much but at least several hundred bucks per ring...)

Are we the only ones? There have to be some of you out there to make me feel better about doing this...

We got both everyday wedding rings for around $350 at the Jewlery Outlet in Massapequa. Not as inexpensive as you wanted, but pretty close. Maybe you can find something there? Good luck.

I kinda have the same dillema. I wanted to buy my ring in platinum - which is 4x as expensive as white gold. So do I just buy the cheaper wg - who can tell the difference anyway? Or do I just buy the one ring I want as I will be wearing it for the rest of my life.

I don't know what to tell you...

We bought plain platinum bands. The two of them together were under $900 at less than wholesale cost. My e-ring with side stones flashes enough to hold me over til we can afford an eternity band. Now I have something to look forward to on an anniversary. Looks like this:

We went the inexpensive route, too. Mine was $149, his was a little bit more. It's the sentiment tht counts.

ug, I hear you. FH and I went just for fun to look at wedding bands the other day (it's a bit early for us to buy, but I like to look) and I peeked at some of the price tags... and damn!

I'm hoping that in a year when the time comes to buy the rings I'll have a little more money... I'm only working part time now, I'm hoping to have a more of a 'real' job in September (hoping being the operative word... we'll see if I get anything. The job market is tough these days!), and then hopefully buying a wedding band won't be such a problem... right now though I'd have to clean out my bank account!

My parents are being really generous and paying for the entire wedding, but I dont think we can afford the wedding band of my dreams and I cant ask them for any more money. So, please Mr. President give us nice tax return.

Yup, cuz we're the ones with 3 kids and a $5000 budget, lol.

You don't have to spend an extravagant amount of money for your bands. You can pick something simple.

You can always pick something else later that you both want to upgrade. Like an anniversary present later.

There is nothing wrong with not buying something you cannot afford. Noone is going to tell you that it's not 'expensive enough'. A lot of people have just plain bands and nobody things anything of it.

My mom had a plain white gold band. It was similar to the setting of her e-ring which was plain since it was a solitaire. I never thought she needed to replace it.

Don't worry!

We were in the same boat!!!! We got a great deal on mine only 300 at Zales! And I put Fh ring on layaway! Try Zales or Kays they have affordable prices, and next week they are having HUGE sales!

I'm right there with you on this one. My problem though is that FH won't hear of just purchasing a 'band for now' he's very stuck on the fact that it's your wedding band and it's the only one that you should ever have.
He feels it's important to say your I DO's with the ones you will wear for your lifetime.
So...I may end up getting a plain platinum. My e-ring is platinum and I don't know if I want to go with white gold on the band. And forget about him he can't even decide what he likes!

i agree....although my band is pretty expensive (cause it's covered in diamonds ).......i have less to look forward to on an anniversary unless i get an eternity band......but the band is white gold instead of platinum....that saved us a big chunk of change. also...FI will just get white gold cause it's cheaper and last night he says, 'I don't think I'm a platinum kind of guy.' And honestly, in the year i've been wearing my heavy platinum e-ring, no one has known the difference...and that kind of takes away from how cool it is that i'm wearing friggin' platinum on my finger!!

Honestly, we skimped on other things to get the bands we wanted because we both want the ones we say our vows with and have pictures with be the ones we always wear. It's just so impotant and sentimental to me. We skipped limos & extras at the hall to save money. To me, this is the one daily reminder that you're married. Almost everything else is gone after the wedding day. To me, this is the most important part of the wedding, it's just my opinion, but that's why I skipped limos & a viennese table.

we are not going all out for our wedding bands. I think for both of our rings it is costing us $700, mine is 9 channel set diamonds to match my e-ring and FH just got a plain WG band. i know plenty of people who have ugraded their e-rings or weddings bands throughout their marriage. if both of you agree, then buy cheaper ones now and upgrade later.

I got a simple white gold band and DH got a simple matching white gold band. Under $200 for both rings total.

Not sure if you like the idea of buying online - but what about checking out Overstock.com? They have great stuff, at a fraction of the price. (Sorry, I sound like I work for them, but I just have bought many things (down comforter, Armani dress, shoes) and spent WAY less then the department store prices). DH even got his BM a Movado thru them for about 1/3 of the stor price!

Not sure how you feel about this, but I have seen some great deals on ebay, alot of them with a money back gurantee and great feedback. Or you can go to chinatown or the diamnod district and you should be able to get a plain ring in your budget with some bargaining.

We had planned to do the same thing because we eloped last year spontaneously. So we really couldnt afford what we wanted but believe it or not I wound up falling in love with my ring and wouldnt think of replacing it now. DH actually lost his a month after we tied the knot and just replaced it with the exact one he had, he too chose not to change it. You never know you might not want to switch but if you do there's nothing wrong with it.
