my mom is 48. she doesn't like 'traditional' MOB dresses b/c she says she's not 'old' she is heavy but has been losing weight for some time. (her words, not mine.)
where can I take her to buy a dress?
I live in Brooklyn. the day my mom travels to LI will be my wedding day...so stores in LI probably won't help.
city stores and websites would be most helpful. thanks.

Re: Is anyone elses mom under 50?
What about Century 21 Jess? they might have some nice stuff there. Also, try Macy's. I saw some nice evening dresses there that weren't too old looking.

My mom will kill me if I post her age b/c everyone thinks we are sisters!! But we were in the same boat...
Don't rule out the nice dept. stores like Bloomingdales and Saks!! My mom found a GORGEOUS Sue Wong dress (she was just on Top Model!!) at Bloomingdales, waited for the Columbus Day Sale, opened up a credit card and got a great deal!!

Jess- there is an adriennes in manhattan too in case you want to check it out
My mom is the same way- No 'old lady' gowns she says- we found some at metamorphisis- on LI so i know it is out of the question for you, but they have top designers which will be carried everywhere- OR you could have them made- from what my my found out the ones she could have made begin at 1000, but for a VERY basic dress- needless to say for what my moms wants she ISNT having it made too much $$$ BUT maybe thats an option...
good luck!

Nope, my mom is over 50 and fabulous!
I can't wait to see what gown she picks! Sorry, I totally hijacked your thread!

Sorry to intrude on your board but my mom was 48 when I got married and she got a dress at Flowerama in Glendale, Queens where the rest of us got our dresses.
Where are you getting your dress? Is she coming with you for a fitting? Maybe she can accompany you one time and if she finds something there you can pick it up for her and she can get it altered near her house.

I know you don't want LI, but for everyone else (and a last resort for you) try Distinctive Dresses in Selden, by TJ Max. They have really sexy/sophisticated dresses for moms and everyone. They also sell really nice handbags and shoes to match!

Re: Is anyone elses mom under 50?
Honestly...I'm not really sure how old my mom is...I think she's either 47 or 48 right now..so she will either be 50, about to be 51 or just about to turn 50... I'm not close with my mom and she's obsessed with acting and being young so she likes to lie about her age and pretend she's either my sister or like an aunt or something when we're in public together She's rediculous (spelling?)

My mom is 55 but doesn't like the typical mother of the bride dresses either. And she lives in Brooklyn.
Chances are I will have to find her dress myself. But when she did it on her own, she checked some store in Canarsie right by the L train station, and also I had checked all the stores in Downtown Brooklyn (including Macy's which did have some nice stuff.)
Have you checked Century 21 in Bay Ridge? Or there's a store in Kings Plaza that had such dresses, I know it's right by Sbarro's, I think the name of the store was Christine's.
