Is anyone getting married....

Original post by NYYankeeGirl72

on a Sunday night?

For those who are, are you getting married before a holiday? Or are you getting such a good deal that you are willing to risk that some people leave your party before it officially ends.

I ask because I am getting a good deal from the Swan Club for a Sunday in May, but I can't book May 30th, the Sunday before Memorial Day, coz my church is already booked.

I need some advice....

TIA

Im getting married on a Sunday in July, ending at 11:30, and I was thinking about that too for a while... the whole Sat vs. Sun thing... but then I realized that if people are going to leave early, they are going to leave whether its a Sunday or a Saturday... Also, the closest people there will stay until the end and I'm sure you'll give everyone enough notice with save the dates that if they want, they can take the next day off... It's only one day, they can go to work a little tired for one day!

I did pick the 4th of July, we added an extra hour to our reception. I'm hoping that people will be given the next day off, BUT, we were picking a sunday no matter what, it was just the most affordable option!! The past three weddings I've been to have been Sundays and everyone stayed till the end!! My cousin even added an extra hour on as the party was winding down because everyone was having such a good time and he didnt want it to end!! I think sunday weddings are so common now that you dont have to worry!

I think that people will stay as long as they normally would.
I dont think that you can rely though that people will stay later because its a holiday weekend. I've never had off for martin luther king day, presidents day, columbus day, or veterans day. A slave to corporate america.

You can also look in extending your cocktail hour. I know it's more expensive to get married in the evening so you may save by having an afternoon wedding even with extending the cocktail hour.

If your not set on a specific date you can always check with the church if they have different times for different months. I know easter can affect this.

I'm getting married on Memorial Day Monday afternoon. Frankly, I don't care who stays and who goes. My friends got married last April and ten people rocked it out at the end of the VH time. It was awesome. It was just the bride and groom and close friends. We had such a great time, we didn't care how many people were there.

my friend got married that day a few years ago and had a big turn out for it. I think as long as you give people notice especially since its a holiday then people will be there.

I am not getting married on a Sunday night but I know whenever I am invited to a Sunday wedding I stay for the entire thing, I feel like it is one night you have to stay up late and then go to work. To me it isn't a big deal. Those closest to you will stay the entire thing!

I agree! I am getting married on a Sunday evening, not before a Monday holiday...it was cheaper and we figure that, everyone is adults and if going to bed one night at 12 is going to kill you, then just leave early...I personally dont have a problem getting home late one Sunday but if someone wants to leave early, they will.

We were going to do Sunday, 2/14 but my FH was dead set against a Sunday. I said, hey, I'm off the next day, who cares!! So, our shin dig is on Saturday night, 2/13 but will run until 1 am. May I add another reason why kids should not be invited?!?
