Can I ask you what a 'dispensation' actually is? What are the reasons for the church to give one? I asked at my church and was told I had to be married inside the walls of a church.

Are you marrying someone catholic?

yes, we both are

I think it is harder to do it if you are both catholic. My FI is jewish.

The only way without a dispensation is to have a 'fake' priest do it. This might be someone who left the church or has gotten married.

With a Deacon, you still do need a 'permission' to be married outside the church if you want the marriage to be recognized by the church. My FH is also Jewish...

Re: Is anyone having a 'Catholic' wedding at the reception site?
We just got married at our hall. We are both Catholic but wanted an outdoor ceremony. Father Bob Schumann was ordained as a real Roman Catholic Priest, but I guess at some point he left to marry. He is still a Catholic Priest and runs his own Catholic church. So now he can perform outdoors, although, no, it won't be 'officially recognized' by the higher ups. But the ceremony looked, sounded, and felt like a church ceremony. Furthermore, I am sure we will be able to baptize our children because (1) most churches don't turn down money when you show up, (2) we have a marriage certificate from our officiant's Catholic chuch and (3) the church allows single parents without spouses to baptize their kids, so denying a child because their parents unfortunately got married makes no sense. FM me if you want more info.
