I'm half Japanese and FH is Jewish.
FYI- being Jewish isn't a race, it's a religion
While Judaism is a religion, a lot of people tend to think of it in the more cultural aspect. I am half Korean, half Caucasian and 100% Jewish. When people ask me what nationality I am, I say Korean and Jewish. For me the Jewish part is more cultural than religious (and I did go to Hebrew school, and I was batmitzvahed), and I have noticed that most of my friends feel the same way.
Again, I will state that Judaism is a religion, you wouldn't state you were Catholic if someone asked your race. Even if you are more culturally connected to Judaism that doesn't mean it's your race. BTW the people that think Judaism is a race are wrong. I'm sorry to state that sets a bad example for others especially those that know little about different religions.

At no point did I disagree with you that Judaism is a religion. And yes, it's definitely not a race, but it is a culture. And again, I think most non-super religious Jews look at it as more of a cultural thing than a religious one.
And I'm interested in knowing why you think that thinking of it as a cultural identity, rather than a religious one sets a bad example for others?

here is the answer to your question: Most secular American Jews think of their Jewishness as a matter of culture or ethnicity. When they think of Jewish culture, they think of the food, of the Yiddish language, of some limited holiday observances, and of cultural values like the emphasis on education.
Those secular American Jews would probably be surprised to learn that much of what they think of as Jewish culture is really just Ashkenazic Jewish culture, the culture of Jews whose ancestors come from one part of the world. Jews have lived in many parts of the world and have developed many different traditions
