I continuously see posts and threads pertaining to how not-worth-it favors are...How people always throw them away...
Well...I'm insulted by this kind of talk...I searched far and wide for what I felt was the perfect favor...And I'm spending a boat-load...(BOAT load of money) on them... I certainly hope my guests don't just say: 'I'm not taking this...' or go home and throw it out if they do take it...
Favors are a tradition. Sure, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do...But really...Even kids at kiddie parties get little favor bags...I know I always did...And I would NEVER not give out a little something to my guests or just assume that people aren't going to notice or care...A favor is a token from your wedding (or any other function)...A small way of saying thank you to your guests for being there...Honestly if I went to a wedding where a favor was not given out...I would absolutely notice and I would think the couple was cheap and didn't really care about their guests...

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
Posted by FLaCaTaCa I don't understand why you would start a whole thread about favors and mention your favor and how expensive they are and then not say what it is. Why bring it up if it is some sort of a secret?
After the way this thread has turned, she'd be silly to open herself up to even more criticism.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
I think this thread has run the gamut, and I don't have much to add about the original topic at hand... All I will say is that everyone is entitled to their opinions , be it PRO FAVOR or ANTI FAVOR.. Lets again realize that we all think differently about wedding stuff in general... and we should respect one another's differences of opinion!!
As for me -- I do enjoy getting favors and truly appreciate the thought that goes into them. I have never 'hated' any favor I've received. But I cannot say it 'makes or breaks' a wedding experience for me, overall. If I don't get a favor, or I get something I don't like... as long as I had a good time at the reception I'm a happy camper!
Anyhow the real reason for my post -- for those ladies thinking about the scratch offs.. definitely do it!! Number one, its inexpensive ... and let me say that we did them at my wedding and they were a HUGE hit!! Nearly one person at every table hit for a little something , and people are still talking about how much fun they were. Here is a pic of our favors (ok, not the butter swan in the middle )
We also gave little votive candle/placecard holders and the jordan almonds. EVERYTHING went over well .. and if it didn't , well ya can't please everyone

Because that's not the point...It doesn't matter what it is...

Whatever makes you happy. I still don't get it but it isn't my favor.

i am sorry, but i can't let this one go. you come on here bragging, 'I'm spending a boat-load...(BOAT load of money) on them', yet refuse to enlighten us on what favor you are giving. quite homestly, i could care less how much $$$ you spent on your favors and what your favors are, i just don't understand the point of this thread.
the only point i see for starting this thread is for you to brag, bi*ch, moan and belittle others.
sorry so harsh, but i KNOW that i am not the only one that feels this way.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
we are giving out donations along with an edible favor of some sort and our votive candle placecards.
We are donating in memory of those that we love and lost, not to save the world . . .

I missed the post about why the jordan almonds are wrapped in tulle, I'm 1/2 Italian too and I don't know what it means.
I FMed it to belle but never posted it...
The almonds, (salty) are coated in candy (Sweat) and symolize the 'yin and yang' of marriage. That even in the bad times, you must remember the good in everything. There is always an odd number (3 or 5 usually) and the tulle is just a vesel..not imperative to the tradition
FYI, I think I'll start a thread to e'splain!

BMD...your post has caused much controversary and I think its simply because of the way you approached it in your post.......in particular you spending a boat load of money...lol and you being insulted by this kind of talk....
Sorry had to laugh.....
But yet you do refuse to tell the group of what exactly your favor is......
Why By the way - what is a boat load of money?

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
Honestly after spending THOUSANDS on my wedding I do not have $$ to spend on things that are not a 'necessity' Favors are definately not a necessity and I rarely take them home myself.
Im still spending a few hundred and donating because its going to a worthy cause. )something I would do anyway) I think thats $$ well spent. I hope my guests will appreciate that more than a favor.
BTW - Just noticed this is an oooold thread

A small way of saying thank you to your guests for being there...Honestly if I went to a wedding where a favor was not given out...I would absolutely notice and I would think the couple was cheap and didn't really care about their guests...
I actually find this insulting. I am doiong favors, just because I am making them, and it smuch cheaper to do than to buy somethnig. BUT, I would NEVER think twice about not gettin a favor...I go tot weddings because I know the couple and want to be there for them on their special day. They are already spending a BOAT load on the reception, etc itself, and if have to budget out favors, than I see nothing wrong with this AT ALL. I would never feel someone did not care about their guests if they did not get a favor, Besides,in most cases, I do nto like a lot of knick-knacks taking up room, so I give them away or put them in the yard sale or something...I would enver think the couple was cheap for not giving favors, I think thats a little harsh.
Just my opinion, I am back to work!
I have to agree. We did a charitable donation and research the charity extensively to make sure the money did not go to overhead but to an actual cure... by the way, we are giving a SIZABLE DONATION!!! a lot more than what most bride's spend on favor per person. If our donation can bring the world a bit closer to a cure (and many of our family members were/are affected by this disease) than well... what favor can compete with that?
BTW, I would never judge a wedding by the favors... I'm more concerned about the quality of the bride and groom's relationship.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
I know this is a very old thread, but I just have to say - to the person who started this thread - grow up! I love getting favors just as much as the next person, but I could honestly care less if there are no favors at a wedding.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
I think people are being a bit too harsh on her, geez, she was simply being honest...I LOVE FAVORS and ALWAYS am happy when I get one...some people actually DO wonder why a favor wasnt given...
Just b/c the majority feel favors 'are no big deal and something to not spend alot of money on', doesnt mean you can undermine her opinion...
And the 'everyone throws them away' theory hurts other people too...it doesnt hold water b/c EVERYTHING 'allegedly' gets thrown away...such as invitations or the fact that flowers die, programs, menus, place card holders, please....I am personally giving a lot of thought on my invitations and favors...but everyone is entitled to their opinion...
No reason to attack the girl just cos she was looking for some support...and honestly, everyone has opinions on what is considered cheap or not..She said the SHE considers her past weddings as cheap for not giving favors..NOT YOURS...and I don't think she meant 'cheap' in the monetary sense as much as it's being made out to be....
Favors aren't about money....it is a tradition and it DOES matter to some of us girls...just my opinion...

I don't think the original bumer realized it was old. Sometimes when you do a search you don't realize it's an old thread.
If you want to discuss pros and cons fo favors, let's start a new thread.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??
I'm not the biggest fan of favors personally. But for my wedding to save me both money and peice of mind I'm giving out burnt CDs of renaissance music. Its much cheaper and I know more people will hold on to that than some little nicknack that will just gather dust.

Yeah, this has got to be the most ridiculous thread right now. Everyone is arguing over something that was posted almost a year ago.. Plus the original poster is now married. So whats the point????

LOL I could always post what I'm wearing for my wedding, and we can have a 14 day thread of heated debate. LOL
