Is anyone NOT anti-favors??

Original post by BMD'sPeanut

I continuously see posts and threads pertaining to how not-worth-it favors are...How people always throw them away...

Well...I'm insulted by this kind of talk...I searched far and wide for what I felt was the perfect favor...And I'm spending a boat-load...(BOAT load of money) on them... I certainly hope my guests don't just say: 'I'm not taking this...' or go home and throw it out if they do take it...

Favors are a tradition. Sure, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do...But really...Even kids at kiddie parties get little favor bags...I know I always did...And I would NEVER not give out a little something to my guests or just assume that people aren't going to notice or care...A favor is a token from your wedding (or any other function)...A small way of saying thank you to your guests for being there...Honestly if I went to a wedding where a favor was not given out...I would absolutely notice and I would think the couple was cheap and didn't really care about their guests...

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??

There were 3 people who weren't at my wedding because of the diseases that we donated to...hopefully my donation will ensure that my childrens' weddings won't be a few guests short...

That's why we did a donation. And honestly, if I didn't do a donation, I probably wouldn't have done anything because I really don't care for favors.

To each his own. - I could care less whether or not there is a favor at the wedding - I don't know what I'm doing, But I'm leaning toward a donation b/c I feel like it's doing SOMETHING unselfish that day. - (it's not depressing, or forcing people to think about sickness) it's just a Donation to a good cause.
And WHO CARES if people on here think your favor is lame ? Or giving favors in general is a waste ?? - If you want to do it and it's important to you - then that's all that matters !!

Whoops! I thought the jordan almonds explanation was posted here, but it was actually FM'd to me. I don't like respoting what people write in FM's without permission, so this is what I got off the internet:

Sugared almonds (Jordan Almonds) are the oldest and traditional sweets. The French refer to them as 'bonbons', while the Italian call them 'bombonieres'. They are made of sweet smelling or toasted almonds or tasty plain chocolate, covered with a thin layer of white or colored sugar. Traditionally, five almonds are used. They have a special significance representing: Health, Wealth, Fertility, Happiness, and Longevity. Seven almonds can also be used. The additional two almonds represent the bride and grooms family, joining together on that day.

Also: According to tradition, Jordan Almonds represent the combination of the bitter and sweet of marriage.

There you have it.

i wish we did NOT have to do favors.

Most end up in the china closet

But tradition rules

i guess i am a cheap person too...

i am not doing favors, however, we are making a sizeable donation to autism research. why? b/c fh's brother has autism and we both teach children with autism.

how does a donation relate to a wedding? well, in judaism, Tzedakah is the hebrew word for charity.
Jewish people often do this especially during joyous occasions. so we felt it appropriate to perform tzedakah in honor of all of our guests.

not everyone has the tradition of giving a favor. calling someone cheap b/c they did not give one is ignorant!

IMO...i think that they way you feel now, after reading posts how favors are wastes...are pretty much how others feel being called cheap...
Bad way to make a point..
BUT
i do agree. sometimes it bothers me that people say they are a waste and that they are un-useful..or favors with engravings of names and date..would never be used...I think that is cheesy too..It is a favor of the wedding that is being given to guests...who cares if they like it or not

And to those who aren't doing them ...hey it is your wedding! Do what you want!

And i have to say i love the charity donations...i think that is the sweetest!

BUT- Im still curious...what is your favor? You say your insulted but you didnt share much about what your favor was, other then us assuming its not a donation...

I have been to weddings with no favor and yes I thought about the fact that there was none...but I didnt CARE about it..thats the difference....

I choose to have them because I LOVE giving gifts but not because it's something to make my guests feel appreciated...they are coming to celebrate my wedding, not get a gift...

I still like the idea of favors though...its a fun part for most involved..bride/groom and the guests

I agree- I am doing a donation favor but as my FH says if they complain, tell the open bar is their favor.

Good Answer!

Lotto tickets? Like the colorful ones? OMG! I have to get those. And they are only like a $1 each. That's it, I am adding those to my favors. And mine are pretty boring, but cute. They are votive candles. Yes, useless, but we didn't want to spend a whole lot on favors, which, like people have said previously, are not really useful for the most part. I have a min ice bucket I got as a favor once. It's very cute, but what am I going to do with it? I appreciated it though, all the same.

First of all---Just for the record, I didn't say that donations were a cheap favor...I think a donation is a sweet idea---and especially meaningful if the B&G have some tie to the charity to which they are donating...And BY THE WAY...I was planning on donating to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of a friend of ours who passed away two years ago--but my fiance changed his mind ...

Next--It doesn't matter what my favor is...The point is the favors that I went through hell and high water to obtain (and YES, spent a lot of money on--I'm sorry if that part offends people!) mean something to me and I was getting a little aggravated by all the posts suggesting that favors weren't necessary or that they were not worth it or that they were
just going to get thrown out anyway...Period the end...

I do see now that there are many things behind a couple deciding to give them or not give them...And I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying that if I went to a wedding and didn't get a favor that I think it was cheap...But I would...I can't change what I think...

We're doing $1 scratch offs too...my family, especially my mom, is really into them. We will probably get the winter related ones when they come out since that's our theme We are also going to go the the bank and get some shiny new pennies to put in the envelope. This is in addition to a donation to the American Cancer Society. We have lost too many family members and loved ones to that horrible disease.

Ain't that the truth. As a 6-year surviver of ovarian cancer, I know all about hte trials and tribulations of cancer victims. I am, however, one of the lucky ones.

I wish we would have thought about a donation earlier in the game.

Good for you, that is so great! Hopefully the donation will assist in finding a cure.

I think the scratch offs will be fun for the kids too, which is another reason we are doing them.

Re: Is anyone NOT anti-favors??

I agree with Julz and the donation aspect. EVERYONE is entitled to their OWN opinion. We all have diff tastes and likings and if you cant speak your mind on this board, why bother having it?

A few weeks ago I posted a poll about my wedding site. I rec'd negative ( and i mean negative comments and I rec'd the nicest comments as well) I did not get upset or cry over it. People have to relax and know that we are all on here for 1 reason and with that we have in common.

Just wanted to speak my mind.
Thanks,
Les

I don't understand why you would start a whole thread about favors and mention your favor and how expensive they are and then not say what it is. Why bring it up if it is some sort of a secret?
