Hi everyone, We are on a very limited budget and a lot of people in my family are telling us that we don't have to give favors. They say especially at a Jewish wedding favors are often not given. We are having an interfaith wedding and would like to save the money but I'm afraid this might be a big faux pas. I would love some opinions. Is anyone else out there not giving favors? TIA! Re: Is anyone not going to give out favors?
You definitely do not have to give out favors. I have been to many weddings where the bride and groom do not give out favors. Usually the only people that notice or care are brides in the process of planning weddings While they are a very nice gesture and some of favors are useful, most of the time they get left on the table and if they do get taken home, stuck in a random drawer. Personally I am not a knick knack person and usually don't display things that I get as wedding favors. It is just not my thing.

IMO, favors are COMPLETELY unnecessary and a waste of money. more often than not they end up as dust collectors or in the garbage.
I totally agree with this, but Im doing them cuz my parents are making me and I know people at the wedding would comment if we didnt have them. I would love to do a donation in lieu of favors but Ive heard people make negative comments about that at weddings too but I think its the best way to go! If I were paying for the wedding I would do that instead!
If its not in your budget dont worry about it..your spending plenty for your guests on everything else, some guests will care less and those that do complain, will get over it!

to be completely honest (PLEASE, no one get offended! ), i can't stand most favors, with the exception of food (chocolates, jam in pretty jars, honey, wine) and maybe some picture frames. i just feel like most of the time, they are a waste of money and end up in the garbage... JMO. so i am not using any. if they are not in your budget, i wouldn't worry about it at all. i've been to many weddings where favors weren't offered, and i didn't miss them one bit.

I agree. I hate to admit Im the guest that usually leaves their favor behind. Unless its edible, I usually pass. Dont worry about the favors, they wont be missed!

Re: Is anyone not going to give out favors?
While I do not think favors are a necessity, I felt since my guests were coming to celebrate my day and give me a gift, I wanted to have a favor for them to take home. I can understand not wanting to since the selection of favors is less than desirable today, but a nice donation to a charity is a lovely idea

You don't have to, i've been to a couple of weddings where i didn't get anything. It's up to the individual, but where i'm from we also give out black cake (west indies) to all the guests. Marc_rai where r u from?

We did not give out favors. As you said, Jewish wedding traditionally do not have favors. However, at the end of the wedding, the hall broke our centerpieces down into mini bouquets of flowers for all of the women. They loved them!
I have gone to many weddings without favors, and never notice one way or another. Maybe that's b/c I've been to mainly Jewish weddings, but it really doesn't make a difference to me. There are few favors that I actually appreciate getting, in all honesty. No offense intended to anyone.

I don't know if you call this a favor or not, but I'm giving my guests pieces of black cake (it's a West Indian tradition) to take home.
Hey we also do that in Barbados, where are you from?

Re: Is anyone not going to give out favors?
a friend of mine told me about something she saw in a favor magazine, its extremely inexpensive and do it yourself. Hersey kisses on teaspoons. With the same, a spoonful of kisses from the mr and mrs. I already had my favors, but i thought this was so cute im having these in addition to my favors.
You definitely don't have to do a favor. Whether people will talk or not depends on your culture. If you're Italian than you had better figure out something to giv as a favor. lol! If you decide you do want to give a favor, it doesn't have to be something expensive. Like someone else mentioned you could do candy or Jordan almonds. Another inexpensive thing would be to get small frames in the dollar store, they would only be $1 per couple.
