we are not. I really could not justify spending the xtra $$. They are just so darn expensive and with having to fly back and forth to NYC and St. Louis all the time, the would have been our airfare for the planning.
I will probably just have someone in my family videotape the ceremony with a camera and a tripod but that's about it.
Anyone else?

We aren't having videographer either. We couldn't budget it in. Plus I'm not sure I want everthing videotaped any way. I am hoping someone will capture our ceremony though.

Same here! My uncle loves to videotape stuff, and he will walk around with a camera all day I am sure. He did it for my sister's wedding and even 'edited' it using two VCRs :) So cute. I have another friends in the biz and I may ask him to videotape the ceremony for me just so I have it all and have a good version .. my uncle is very amateur at it.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
I think video is one of those things that you wont look at very much, but it's nice to have to look back on when do you want to. We were planning to do a video anyway, but the photographer i fell in love with makes you do video with them too if it's during peak season. Luckily their video price was reasonable (we got the most basic package) and was much nicer than we had anticipated.
If you don't want to pay for video, maybe consider having a friend or neighbor tape it? Maybe even pay a college kid $200 to do it so your friend/family member can enjoy the day too? I don't think video needs to be super fancy but it's nice to have it and you cant go back and add it afterwards...

no video here. we both felt it would be a big expense for something we'd rarely watch. i almost was convinced by other to do video, people saying that our kids would like to watch it, but i'd rather spend the $$ on really good pics. those we'll look at an will be able to display.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
IMO- I think the wedding video is one of the MOST important things to have!! The day of your wedding is going to be over in a blink of an eye, and trust me you will not remember half of what went on! Your adrenaline is pumping and you are on cloud nine all day, things can happen right in front of you and you may not realize it! The 1st time I watched my raw footage, I saw soooo many things that I had no clue happened!! I love to watch my video and in years to come I'll want my children to see it!
Just think about it!! You only get married once!!

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
Thanks ladies, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Honestly, if my parents had a wedding video, I don't think I would watch it. I really don't. I feel like that would be something special for them, but not so much me. I love to look at their wedding pics don't get me wrong, but I think the video is just an added expense that we can do without.
Also, we went to our friends wedding this past May who had a videographer and they were in the way the whole time. Between them and the photographer, half of the guests couldn't see the ceremony and they kept telling us to move when we were on the dance floor. They were very intrusive and I don't want to make my guests feel like they are inconvienceing our vendors.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
All along I said that I didn't want a videographer. My banquet manager strongly suggested that we get one because there will be so many things that we will miss if we don't have it. I'm still torn. Our wedding is in 3 1/2 months and we have't booked one yet.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
I totally want the ceremony recorded no matter what. It will probably be a family member that does it.
But I don't want the reception stuff recorded. I have seen plenty of people make a$$es out of themselves at weddings and I don't want all of that on a video. I have heard that brides are very disapointed when they get their video back from the reception and it's just a bunch of drunken fools being silly.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
We have come to the conclusion that we are going to buy a video camera (a good HD one) and have different people video tape through the night so it will be very unique and custom made. In the end we get the video and a new camera to video tape out kids when we have them.

Re: is anyone not having a videographer
we didn't have a professional one... my friends dad has a great digital camcorder that records onto DVD, so we just asked him to do it for us. he came to the rehearsal to figure out where to stand and everythign! he also 'edited' it and put in scene selection, so we just watch the ceremony, or just watch the reception if we want... he is very religious and doesnt' drink or dance, so he was able to tape some of teh reception, too without it 'Ruining' his time... he was actually glad to have something to do. he didn't want any money, but we gave him a gift card to a nice restaurant.... i really think you should have somebody tape it, even if its a college film student or something... the day goes by SOOO fast, and that night in teh hotel, DH and i were like ' what just happened?!' its so nice to be able to see what the minister said, see the best man give his speech, etc- little things like that that you don't really remember after the day. so, while theres no need to pay $$$$ for a pro video, i would definitely look into having someone do it for you...

We are having one photographer.....
We decided that we probably wouldn't watch the video more than once....so why spend that additional money.

We are not having one either. We are not even doing photo albums. I dont think we will watch the video more than once and Id rather make our album. Glad I am not the only one not videotaping, I was feeling kinda guilty.
