is anyone not having a videographer

Original post by cherandgeo

we are not. I really could not justify spending the xtra $$. They are just so darn expensive and with having to fly back and forth to NYC and St. Louis all the time, the would have been our airfare for the planning.

I will probably just have someone in my family videotape the ceremony with a camera and a tripod but that's about it.

Anyone else?

I am having one and can understand for those that are not, but I just want to say that people I know that did not video it are sad they did not .

Your day goes so fast and I want some to capture for me without someone's head in the way or getting the ground for a few seconds.

People you love that would be in that video may not be here one day and you may want to look back at it. Your kids get a kick out of seeing it and will have it when you are gone.

I know it is everyone's own choice and I am not saying anyone is wrong, I am just saying think twice about it.

Are you spending money else where that is mroe foolish? If so, transfer the money there. And with a little shopping around you can get one for a reasonable price.

Either way..good luck and enjoy your day.

We are not having one either. I just think they are intrusive at weddings and I do not dance when the camera is there. Since I want to dance at my own wedding we are not having one. We decided to put the extra money toward really good pictures.

When we first started planning DH and I were not going to hire a videographer. It put us over budget and DH also felt it was a waste of money etc.

Now that we are married well over a year and after seeing the wedding video we are both so glad we opted to get one.

As a couple of other girls mentioned your day goes by in the blink of an eye. You cannot be in more than one place at a time and you will miss some things and not remember other things. We really loved our pictures, but there were many pictures that the photographer did not get simply because again they could not be in more than one place at a time and having the video compensated for all of that. I don't think I am going to watch the video over and over, but every time we have watched it I have enjoyed it immensely. I also know that one day 20, 30, 40 years down the line I will want to share my special day with my children and seeing it in video is almost as if you are part of it.

After the wedding all you have left are your photos and videos. So I highly recommend at the very least having a friend or family member video some highlights of your wedding.

We are not having one either. We are not even doing photo albums. I dont think we will watch the video more than once and Id rather make our album.
Glad I am not the only one not videotaping, I was feeling kinda guilty.

We did not order professional photo albums either but we are doing professional pictures that we can make our own book with or order online at like kodak- how are u making yours? but with the same photo company we did hire for videographer - that for us was more important than the album -we think we would watch it more than looking at a book. then we will have like one frame up of the wedding. my fiance's cousin's kid watches her mom's video everyday for the longest time thinking her mom is cinderella. : )

We did not and I do not regret it one bit.

We both agreed we didn't want one. We thought it would be a waste. We just did the pics.

We are doing the same-using the professional pics and either kodak or shutterfly. This way I think the albums will be more personal'. To me videographers are intrusive and Im really shy soo....we opted not to have one. Along with the fact that I really dont like looking at myself so I dont think that I could watch it more than once!

If you have a good videographer/photographer you won't even know they're there! I know I didn't!!

WE didn't have video. We don't want to spend additional $2K for something we only watch on the first year of marraige. My SIL got married 10 years ago and they going watch their video twice. Having said that, we hired 2 photographers to capture (if not all) everything. IMO, picture last longer than video.

i think video cameras make people nervous, and the whole 'say something to the bride and groom' thing has always been one of my least favorite things about attending weddings, so i won't be putting my guests in that position. we figure ditching the video will free up $ for a great photojournalist, and the pictures are a top priority for me. we bought my brother a digital camcorder for christmas, and we know he'll walk around taping everything whether we choose to hire a videographer or not.

I hear ya! WE are more than likely not having one either. It's so expensive. We were on the fence for a while. But, if we have great pics that will make us happy!

I would love to have one...I hope my budget allows it and if it doesn't, I'll try to make it work. I am a sentimental person, so just having it will make me feel better. I know a few couples who did not have one and they soooo regret it and I don't want to be that bride that turns around and says 'I should've just spent the money and had a videographer'. I know the day is going to go by super fast and I want to be able to see live footage, things a picture can not capture.

To each his own, but I think I will be getting a videographer.
