personally, i feel like it's very expensive. I definitely think china is very nice and makes things elegant and formal but even my mom doesn't go through the hassle of using it on holidays anymore. I'm still undecided
definitely wont' have room for china either and FI and I do need everything since we live at home.

I didnt register for china. We need so much more I would rather have right now. I did register for nice wine glasses though.

I didnt plan on registering for it... and I already have my regular dinnerware.. I didnt want to register for it for 2 reasons.. 1) dont know if I will ever use it 2) it will sit in the box since right now I have no room for it
BUT my sister made a point that she has her good china in a box put away right now.. and its better to store it and have it.. then to one day want it and have to go buy it yourself.... thats one thing people like to buy for you for some reason..

I have lived with Nick for 4 years now in our 1 bedroom apt. and never needed it, I cant say that I will for a long time. We use the red plastic cups from Costco now... it really is fine stemware! LOL

I couldn't agree with this more!! My mom didn't register when she got married b/c 'you just didn't back then' but it took her 30 years before she got her china that she LOVES!! My dad bought it for her and surprised her one day- she walked thru the door and there was a fully set table for 12. I decided then that even though I didn't think that I wanted china that I would register for it. Things will change as we have families and friends over for holidays, etc...

I own my own home...but we didn't register for china either. I wanted new casual dinnerware. The stuff I had was old (7 or 8 years since I've been away from home). I would rather have something I could use everyday. Besides...if people only buy a few pieces...then you have to buy the rest to fill in.
My mom said I could have her china if I want...it came from my dad's mom. She never uses it either.

I'm not... we just bought a house, which keeps things in perspective... new china, or new kitchen? Kitchen rules ... besides, I inherited 2 sets of china from my grandparents, which, of course, I NEVER use...

Re: is anyone NOT registering for fine china? POLL
we weren't going to, but my step brother in law said that was a mistake. That when we buy a house, we're not going to want to buy china. there will be other things to buy like furniture. SO we put it on. And if we get it, we get it... if we don't, no biggie. We were running out of things to register for anyway.
ETA- My mom ALWAYS used the china for holidays and company, so i'm sort of accustomed to that tradition, so i'd like to do that myself.

Same here..... I've never known my mom to use it and we've been living together for 3 years and never needed it. I will definitely register for new dinnerware and silverware though.

I'm not because my mother bought herself a new set and is passing down hers to me.

Same here. I don't see myself using it at all during our first few years of marriage (it'll probably live in my moom's attic for awhile), but, I can't imagine not having it for big family meals over the years. I think it has allot to do with tradition. If your family always had big buffets and used casual china or paper plates than I can see that the fine china would not be a priority for you. But if you want to continue a tradition of sit-down dinners than you may want to get it even if you know you won't really use it yet. JMO

I'm registering for it because of what everyone else has said - in 5 or 10 years I'll want to host family dinners and stuff, and I'd like china for those occasions.

I'm already registered and had my shower but thought I would share my thoughts.
I too didn't see the need for formal china but everyone convinced to just register for it, since this would really be the only chance we'd have to do it. So I did and to my shock we did get that plus my casual china and other gifts. As sor storage I ordered those quilty things to store everything until we use them
I learned it's better to have more on your registry than less. People will start to buy you things for engagement gifts, wedding gifts, showers, etc.

We are not registering for fine china and silver. I also inherited both from my grandmother and really love it.
