Is Anyone NOT Registering for Formal China?

Original post by ChrissynRicky

I am considering taking my $109 per place setting china off my registry and going for a less expensive setting and registering for a set instead.

Is anyone not registering for formal china, and doing a set or nothing at all?

I registered for formal china & everyday. I think of it as this, I will only have this chance to get my formal china. I would probably never buy it for myself, but for those few occassions, I can't wait to use it. My place setting is $69 at Macys. For our e-party, I got 7 sets plus our sugar/creamer & serving dish. I'm sure I'm finish the rest at my shower. I do wish I got more of my formal flatware, being I only got the hostess set from my sister. Most importantly, I WANT MY POTS & PANS!!!!!!!

We registered for a less formal (i.e. not as expensive) set at Macys, and I'm so happy I did. FMIL bought 8 place settings for us already, along with 8 place setting of our flatware.

I just couldn't bring myself to register for something that was $100+ a setting, especially when I don't know how often I will use it. I would be nervous using something so expensive and probably not use it as often. I can't wait to use the setting we picked out though!

i took it off of my registry... i will not use it and i'd rather people buy me things that i could use right now.

We're not registering for any dinnerware at all - especially not china. We bought all of our dishes, glasses, and flatware brand new when we moved into our apartment before we got engaged. We love everything we bought and don't see a need to replace it.

We did not want to register for it, but my parents and parents friends said that we should. We might not need it now, but somewhere down the line we will wish we had it because we not want to pay for it then. So I figured, if someone wants to buy it for us, then let them.

I registered for two sets of everyday china. First of all spending at minimum $100 a place setting just seems like a waste of money and I don't feel like holding my breathe every time I put out dishes. Second, nothing really jumped out at the both of us.

I'm not registering for China. My mom is giving me her's when I have the room. We already have one everyday set so we are registering for a little nicer everyday.

No fine chine for me either..First of all, I would probably never use it so we decided to get nice every day dishes instead. besides my mom still has my grandmother's china and china of her own so eventually one day i'll probably get one of those!

None for me either. We don't host dinners at our house and probably never will. It's also pointless because when we buy a house it will be out of state.

I'd rather register for things we can use and not things that will end up on display for years on end!!!

I originally registered for $130 place settings. I removed those for $70 place settings. I really want my china, but I thought $130 was a bit out of hand (for my family).

we aren't registering for formal china, just everyday placesettings (mikasa's french countryside). its a set we can easily dress up for the holidays with fancy napkins and such. we aren't into formal dinner parties and such and for the holidays we would more likely use a cute snowman set over formal china. my fi's parents have like 3 sets and they would happily give us one when we need it (free is good). whatever floats your boat! ~lacey

I'm pretty sure we'll skip china altogether, we already have everyday plates and don't really have the room in our apartment for anything more. And I think I'll be inheriting some good stuff sooner or later anyway...

We just registered for everyday china at Target. I'm so glad we found something really beautiful for every day.

i'm just not into china. even the really pretty stuff, I just don't ever see using. It just looks a little too fancy, but I guess that's the point. It's just so expensive and I feel like I would be afraid to use it for fear of ruining it or breaking it. i'm not registered for it and never thought twice about it. I'd much rather have kitchen appliances or have people chip in for a flat screen tv that we would use every day for the kind of money they charge for china. I just can't see having such expensive stuff that just sits in a cabinet. I know you're supposed to have it on display in the cabinet, but I don't really care for that look either. I think you either love it and have been waiting to put in on your registery your whole life, or you're just not into at all...... I registered for a beautiful set of everyday dishes and a little bit fancier set that I'll use on holidays.
