Is anyone providing long-distance transportation for guests?

My FI and I are getting married at the Old Field Club in Stony Brook. FI has about 12-15 friends from NYC who are coming to the wedding, but aren't staying overnight at either hotel we've reserved rooms at. FI wants to rent a bus/limo to drive them to the wedding and then to drive them back after. Long story short, this would cost us close to $1000 with tip and everything.

Is it really worth it? I know he wants to do a nice thing for his friends and provide a really cool experience for them, but come on. My feeling is they're all 30+ years old, why can't they rent a car, or a van if they want to carpool, or stay at one of the hotels instead of driving back the same night?

What do you guys think?

We also have a number of friends coming in from NYC, and we do not plan on providing transportation for them.

(btw, when I saw long-distance transportation in the title, I thought you were asking whether people would pay for airfare!!! )

Same here, we have friends that we invited coming from Manhattan and though it would be nice, we just can't swing it. It's just too expensive. They are on their own.
