feeling really strange about moving out?!?!? I've lived with my parents my whole life and the thought that I have to leave in 3 weeks is really difficult for me, it's like I'm uprooting my life and I'm not a kid anymore, which I know, but I feel like in the span of a few hours everything will change, nothing will ever be the same anymore, and it bothers me.....I guess with all the drama and stress, it's just really getting to me

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
I kind of feel this way too...to say I've had a sheltered life is an understatement, and I've never lived away from home, even college was 7 minutes from home so I commuted instead of dormed. It's just a weird, overwhelming feeling to know that when you come home from work, your dinner isn't going to be on the table waiting for you, your wash isn't going to be cleaned and put away, when you wake up on Saturday morning you can't just spend the morning online but you'll have to clean the toilet, etc.
I'm going to go take another pill now, geez.

Thanks for the pick me up Ali
Honestly, I didn't commute either, I lived at home when I went to college and because I'm an only child, my parents were all I had when I was a kid and we're super close now, it's hard to think about not seeing them and my dog and my birds every night, and to get up in the morning and be alone.....really strange....

I was just thinking that too....I spend A LOT of nights and FH's/just about our apartment but I now I will stay there every night, it was so strange to realize that I literally have only a few more days left in my own room (I have lived there my whole life and stayed home for college too).

It's weird, because I'm either extremely fortunate, or extremely disadvantaged, depending on your outlook on life. I'm definitely grateful to my parents for taking care of me the way they did, although we did not have it easy by any stretch of the word to be able to survive contrary to how it might have sounded, but sometimes I also wonder if they didn't do me a grave disservice because of how much of a shock this is going to be to me.
And forget FH, he doesn't even iron his work shirts

I totally agree with you, I'm so lucky to have parents that love me enough to take care of me for so long, but it's going to be real culture shock.....I get FH to clean the toilet, but forget the laundry, it sits in a pile on the bedroom floor for weeks, I refuse to pick it up but it's driving me insane!!!!!!!

i hear ya... dont worry... as soon as you move in together, you'll learn soon enough how to do all the things you never had to do for yourself... it could def be a shocker... but you get through it and funny enough, it feels good doing these things for yourself... you get to feel accomplished

thats the thing, you really have to work together on things... like bc i have a day off during the week, i use it to clean up the apt, do laundry, etc... FH will cook and i'll clean... if i dont get around the laundry, he'll put it in the washer/dryer, and then i'll fold... if its not 50/50, thats when the place starts looking like crap... LOL

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
ITA I'm planning on getting married in October and have lived home since the day I was born. I commuted to college and continue to live here. Since I have a brother and sister (who is getting married in July but bought the house next door), I always knew there was someone home with me. I never had to worry that I had nobody to talk to or be around. Soon, it will just be me and FH, which I am excited about but definitely will be a shock. He has been out of his family's house for years now, so he doesn't get what I'm going through. Especially because he usually is the one to hear about when I'm mad at my parents or my family. So he doesn't get why it's going to be hard to leave. But I don't know how I'm going to react yet. My sis is moving next door, but since FH works way out east, we're looking somewhere in Suffolk which is about 1/2 hour or more away from my home. I guess only time will tell how I react to this change!

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
i have lived at home all my life. I didn't go away for college and i have never been away from home for more then 2 weeks. I am def. excited to move in with fh, but at the same time i'm a little sad to be leaving my parents. I'm the first one to get married and move out so i know it will be hard on my parents. I'm also a little worried about coming home and having to cook dinner and all that. i think i know how to make 3 things. lol

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
C'mon, there's more than 3 things that can be made in the microwave. I am the microwave professional. That's what FH always gets on me about when we talk about registering. He asks if I even know what I need half of the stuff for since I just need a microwave anyway!! The worst part is that it's so true

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
I actually almost posted that myself. I have to admit as much as I love my new house, I am having major anxiety over it. I will hate not coming home and walking upstairs to talk to my mom and my dog. And my room.... its been my pink room with my canapy bed since I was 16, I don't want to leave it. Meanwhile in my new home I will be home alone Mon - Wed when FH is up at his company offices. Its really really giving me some anxiety. I can't wait to be his wife, but sickly, part of me wishes it was the old days in a matriarchal society when everyone moved in with the girls parents. Glad I am not alone in my anxiety.

I went away to college and lived alone in DC, but I was so happy to come home after DC and I have gotten use to it again. DC always felt like college to me, both were situations where I knew I would be coming home, it never felt like a finite move out before.

Re: Is anyone who still lives at home....
Sorry to crash but i can completely sympathize. DH and i waited til we were married to move in with eachother...he lived with his mom and brothers (to help his mom financially) and i lived with my fam. It was super hard for us because we both had a lot of internal guilt...him, because he was so used to helping out and being the 'man of the house' and for me, my parents are both sick, especailly my dad, and everytime we had to call the ambulance i happened to be home. We both felt guily. When we came back from our honeymoon three weeks after our wedding, DH and i stayed at my parents for almost a full two weeks so i could get used to the idea of not being there if they need me. It was hard in the beginning but right now we have an apt around the corner and we may be buying the house across the street from theirs lol. It is scary...emotions are running high the month before your wedding. Enjoy your time home and i can guarantee you, with time, it will get easier. I hope you have a beautiful wedding day

ITA!!!! Both you and FH have to clean... If I cook, FH does all of the dishes... and so on... If Im doing the bathroom- FH is cleaning the living room.... If its not 50/50 then it would be looking like a mess. I am wayyyyyy too exhausted from working full-time to be cleaning 24/7 lol From the beginning you have to get your FH to do this stuff with you....otherwise they'll think you can handle it all on your own.
To answer the whole moving away from your family thing- when FH and I moved into an apt.... it was FAR from both of our parents and it was hard because we missed everyone. We moved back home to save up for the wedding and we've been so happy because we live together and are back with both our families. When we do look for a house soon, I want to find a house that is close to our parents. We are all very close and I love being able to go over whenever I want

Awwwww! i know what you're saying! When I moved in with FH i cried everyday for a week(no exageration) I was so homesick! But You will be ok and you will love living with your FH! It just takes a little getting used to. I talk to my parents every single day and I go there atleast once a week!
