Is being pregnant like you thought it would be?

Is being pregnant like you thought it would be?

I always had a vision of what I thought being pregnant would be like and how I would react to it. Honestly, I never thought the weight would bother me nearly as much as it really does. I LOVE feeling the baby kick and hearing the baby's heartbeat but I always figured I would like that.
anyone else?

I thought I would easily accept the fact that I was gaining weight for the baby, but I haven't.

I also thought it would be easy to 'take it easy', but I'm far too independant, and often find myself in the middle of a project I shouldn't have started.

Other than that, it's what I expected.

I never thought I wouldn't enjoy it. I was so sick for the first 5 months and now he is so big I am so uncomfortable. I love feeling him move around inside me But I really thought I would enjoy being pregnant more than I have.

I enjoyed it alot!!! I had a feeling I would!!!

The weight was only a problem at first because I'm a plus size & I had to get the word 'fat' out of my vocabulary!!! Once I did I LOVED it!!!! I wore more fitted clothes pregnant then I do now!!!!!!

You know what Tracy? I think the word 'fat' should be eliminated from EVERYONE'S vocabulary...
It's such a mean, unflattering, and hurtful word... there are much more positive ways to describe people.

I won't be using the word 'fat' any more, unless I'm describing a steak. Thanks for the GREAT idea!

Jenn, LOL A steak! YUMMM

Being pregnant...

Well my sister's first 2 pregnancies were my first close and intimate experiences to pregnancy. As she started showing, I thought she was the most beautiful thing in the world. I always wanted to listen to her belly, feel the kicks and I thought she looked like the cutest thing in all her maternity outfits. In that belly was the baby of my identical twin. Since she was the first of us (we are 4 sibs) to be married and start a family, so it was all overwhelmingly emotional for me... I took the train from my job to her job one day, during lunch, to surprise her with a Peanut Butter n Jelly sandwich that she was craving... I totally LOVED being vacariously pregnant through her I even went to a Lamaze class with her when her hubby couldnt make it. and Then Being at the birth of her children, was really the cake-topper to this truly amazing miracle...

(I'll answer the question, be patient, the tangent will come in the beginning or the end of my posts, this time it was the beginning )

Being pregnant myself...

I have loved it more than I could have imagined.
SURE, every pregnant woman, including myself, will have 'not so great' days, where you feel that nothing looks right on you, and youre just changing shape and size every day, and there's not a darn thing you can do about it... Thankfully, there were SO few of those 'bad' days, that I thoroughly enjoyed being pregnant. When Im REALLY showing, (and not in that 'in-between' stage, where you feel just 'big' but not yet 'belly-prego'), that's when I LOVVVEDDD to be pregnant more than ever. That's when it was the most REAL. I'd stand in line at the store, and just have one hand on the side of my ribs, waiting to communicate with my little champ, waiting to feel that kick or roll.
I could never have imagined those feelings until I was pregnant myself. Like Tracy, said, I also wore more fitted tops when I was prego than I EVER do when Im not preggo. I even put a maternity shirt on WAY too early just to feel MORE prego
As the first few people would ask me if I was pregnant, it was the biggest compliment to me. Id look at John and go ' They can TELL!!! '

The last 2-4 weeks really drags, because you've spent so much time talking about and preparing for this baby, that youre SO ready to just have him/her there in youre home, and this pregnant thing is starting to wear off (as compared to the excitement and suspense of meeting the little one )

So that's my take on 'Being pregnant'.......

Personally, I had (have) a more difficult time w/the whole weight thing AFTER Paul was born, than I did during the pregnancy. I LOVED being pregnant. I do wish that my body was more 'in shape' and prepared to handle the physical stresses of pregnancy. But, now I know better for the next time and I'm working toward my goals in the meantime.

The only things I really did not enjoy where the swollen ankles and heartburn. Other than those two things, I really did just fine.

Jenn-LMAO!!! I agree that fat is an evil word! Unless of course it is about a steak!!!
Enjoy every pound (you are supposed to gain weight. Remember that)

Aside from the loss of sleep, nausea, backaches, leg cramps, carpal tunnel, pregnancy *mask*, 60 pound weight gain and the car accident the NIGHT before I was scheduled to be induced , I loved being pregnant!!!

I really did love it!!! Feeling 'him' move inside me... kicking, punching and hiccuping was absolutely incredible!!! I miss it!!

What a miracle!! I'm looking forward to giving Sean a brother or sister!

i hear you Kathi- aside from having bronchitus 2 teims (once the week we were due), the carpal Tunnel ( both hands) and PUPPS (itchy skin until u make urslef BLLED syndrom) I enhoyed being preg...when I finally really showed. I was a plus size b4 so I DID have issues with the weight gain (ALL OVER my body)
BUT i loved feeling her move around...and going to the Bradley Technique classes

I never expected to be this nervous. I wasn't prepared for that. But I guess its good practice for what's coming AFTER the baby's born!

Meanwhile, the daily ups & downs can be exhausting, but it doesn't bother me really. There's always some new challenge to overcome! Just as I think I'm into a really good rhythm, something else comes up. Lately, I'm struggling through ANOTHER size change .... along with the change of seasons. Its a little tough. Especially for a dedicated shopper! Oh well! Its all worth it!

great question!

I didn't expect it to 'hurt' so much! I know the worst is yet to come by far, but I didn't know about all the pulling and tugging. I am surprised by that. Nobody mentioned that! I wasn't anticipating the breaking out either...in general I thought I would look a lot better! My body is ok I guess, but my hair is dead looking/dull, my skin is pasty and broken out, dark circles under my eyes.

BUT - I feel much more special than I thought I would! I love when women look at me and smile..I feel like I am part of a new VIP club!

I think it's been a lot more 'normal' than I expected it to be. But this could be because I'm still early on. I am really lucky in that I had no morning sickness or any bad symptoms. If I hadn't seen the baby in the sonogram, I would probably not believe that I'm pregnant!

This has been the most exciting experience of my life. I love admiring my belly and I am really excited about fuller boobs. The weight thing enters my consciousness ever so often. I hate being weighed at the doctor. I realize I will have to do some serious excercising after the pregnancy to get my body back.

Re: Is being pregnant like you thought it would be?

I don't think I really feel all that pregnant yet, mostly because I am not showing (almost 17 weeks). I am just starting to pop a little this weekend and now I just want to be obviously pregnant so I can really get into it. I always imagined loving my pregnant body so I am anxious to see how I really feel. I do love the bigger breasts! But I hate my terrible skin - that I didn't expect. I also didn't expect the belly stretching pain like jenny11.9 said. I fully expected hating every pound I gained and I have hated the couple of pounds so far to the point of crying on occaision (I hope some of you can understand that honest and embarassing confession). I also did not expect being so nervous all the time- about everything, the future, every pain, etc. Overall, I love it so far - the good far outweighs the bad.

no need to apologize for crying over weight. I DREAD being weighed at the doctor's office. I feel like I am going to a WW meeting and being weighted in.

MIchele you took the words right out of my mouth.

If I see someone, I haven't seen in awhile. I tend to say I am getting fat, before they could even bring it up. I really don't want anyone telling me anything about my weight. I know I am much bigger than I was a few months, and definitely a few years ago.

The one thing that I truly love is DH reactions. He gets so excited... and always tells my belly that he can't wait to see him/her...

I have my second ultrasound on Friday so there's been lot of talk about what it's going to be (unfortunately he can't be there since he can't take a day off from teaching so soon in the year, so his mom is going with me...) he said this morning... you know it wouldn't be kind of nice if it were a girl you know... hearing her say that I looked nice going to work... that would be nice... I just thought that was the cutest ever!!!

Re: Is being pregnant like you thought it would be?

I LOVED being pregnant with my son the first time. I was never sick, hardley gained weight, had all my energy till the very end ( I was also 24 then)

This pregnancy is very different. You all know how sick I was the first few months.. now I feel much better but am always so darn tired and hungry.
I still love that I am carrying billy's little brother inside me, and I love the kicks and all but I really thought it was going to be like the first time.

Then again all things considereing, this baby is doing great and is healthy so what more does one need than that?

The weight thing bothers me alot too..I feel I look 'fat' and not pregnant. I feel other ppl are looking at me like that too..I'm trying more to hide my belly at this point more than I am trying to show it off..I gotta work on it
