In my honest opinion, I think that is a little too far. How much time would they have to drive that? That factors in as well.

I mean, it really does come down to you and your FH and what you truly want as it is YOUR wedding. But, my rule of thumb while planning our wedding was putting myself in my guest's shoes.....

I think it would be a pinch 'annoying' but people will deal.

When are you planning to have your wedding? You might be able to get away with it in the winter but if you want a summer sat I was def prob not the best idea...gridlock could really screw things up not only for your guests but for you as well....

I would think that since the distance is so far, many people might opt to not attend the ceremony.

Would you be open to providing transportation to the venue? Then the distance really shouldn't be an issue

I don't think it's too far.

Last year FH and I had weddings where the church was in Queens and then the reception out east (one at Flowerfield and another at East Wind).

We also went to a wedding where the Church was in Marine Park and the reception was at CLM.

Bottom line is... the people who love you will be there. Have it where you want it :)

I think it's fine.last year I went to a ceremony in queens and their RH was in Holbrook, Suffolk County (Villa Lombardi's)... We went to both... they are great friends and the distance didn't matter to us!

I don't think it is a problem as long as there is ample time to get there

i really think it's up to you. People aren't obligated to go to the church so it's up to you how importnat it is that people go to the church. Honestly, if I was a guest and it wasn't a super close friend I wouldn't drive from farmingville to dix hills to southold. Howver, your bridal party will have the limo right? so if it's not a huge deal that all your family makes it to the church then keep it as it :) your choice

In my opinion, that is a little far but as others have said... it really boils down to what you and your FH want most. If getting married in your home congregation is important to you, then don't sacrifice But if getting married at a church closer to Raphael doesn't bother you, most churches I've encountered (Roman Catholic) usually do not refuse to marry people who aren't part of their congregation.

Just an aside -- FH and I go out to the wineries all the time and there are a few really cute churches on the main road there closer to Aquebogue and Greenport a little further east of Raphael.

If they are not that close to you I think you would have less people at your ceremony. I would skip the church if it wasn't someone close to me

Yes, it is pretty far .. but I went to a wedding where the ceremony was in Brooklyn and the reception was at the Swan Club, I would say thats a similar commute (due to insane amounts of traffic in the city) ... It wasn't that bad

I don't think so. My church is in Dix Hills too, St. Matt's?

I am a Brooklyn girl and this is normal for us Brooklyn people. We typically get married at our church and then have the reception in Long Island... bad thing is most people will skip the church other than close family. Its your wedding and if you want to get married in your church then do it!!!

I decided that since I have a lot of out-of-town family that we'd get married in the church we will be a part of after we get married, which is about20-30 min away from the RH so they wouldn't have to be in the car all day long.

So i was set on a venue that is about an hour and a half from where most of my guests are coming from (venue out east, we live in western nassau) and I think you definitely have to take into account who your guests are. I have a lot of older family who definitely wouldn' t make the trip that far. And personally, if I were at a wedding where I had to drive that long to the venue, I probably wouldn't bother going to the church and would just go to the party.

My friend got married at Raphael and her ceremony was in QUEENS. You just have to realize that most people won't go to the church, but the people that count will! She also provided shuttle service to bring people back home to Queens after the wedding. You want people to have fun (and drink) and not have to worry about them driving. They DID have to get into their cars once the shuttle dropped them off, but that's a few hours after. Raphael is amazing, and the food is UNREAL!! This is coming from a total food snob. Can I be invited? hahaha. I remember the sliders and a tuna tartare passed hors d'ouvres. Amazing!!!
