I agree that if you do have the church in Dix Hills some guests will skip the ceremony and just go to the reception. I had the same issue, and we decided to get married closer to the venue. We are getting married in cutchogue (5-10min fro Raphael) Its Our Lady of Ostrabrama. There is also another church nearby-Our Lady of good counsel- they won't marry non-parishoners though (you can easily become a parishoner)
Then there is St Pat's but thats way East- closer to Orient. and St Isador in Riverhead. All very nice

Too far. I think you'll have a lot of people missing the ceremony. When i was planning a winter wedding I just LOVED East Wind, but it's something like 78 miles from my church, and I just couldn't put my guest through that..and don't forget the more milage the more opportunities for people get stuck in traffic, etc. That kind of 1 1/2 hour drive can turn into 3 hours.

My dilemma is this:

I'm getting married at a church in Riverhead and East wind is about 15-20 minutes away.

I know that I wont have many people at my church because for most people it is a hike. I know that I were to get married out my exit 51 I would have people there because they could run to the church, go home and get dressed. For my wedding they have to come dressed because its too far out.

they will definitely recommend that you don't get an antique limo bc they don't like to drive them that far. Would you be able to get a church closer to your reception hall?

it is a bit far BUT...

if your set on having it at that particular church and ceremony, maybe you could add a note on your invitation? we recently attended a wedding where the reception is 2 HOURS away! they had a separate note on the invitation mentioning this and that they do understand if the guest can only go to one place and not both... me & hubby went to both places though because we're good friends.

I think it's fine, as long as you realize that a number of people may not attend the Church.

I don't think it's too far...we have done that long drive for weddings..We usually stopped off at the hotel first to get ready since there is time between the church and reception...also not everyone will go to the church.

It depends really - if you have a lot of ppl coming from the west and they have to travel an hour just to the church and then an ADDITIONAL hour to the reception out east that seems too far and most ppl honestly will just skip the church b/c that becomes a really long day. But if they are relatively close to the church and then are just traveling an hour to the hall I don't think its that far (we've gone to Jersey several times). HTH!

My cousin got married in Glen Cove and then had her reception at Raphael...it's your wedding and those who love you and want to be there wont mind. I believe Dix Hills might be a little closer then Glen Cove actually!
