Will my FH's family who is Jewish look at this as disrespect towards there beliefs and will it be
tough to find clergy?

You should probably ask his family and his rabbi (if your fiance/fiance's family attends a particular temple) what day they think would be appropriate to have your wedding on. They will probably appreciate that you are taking their feelings into account before making your decision. Best of luck!

We're having a Jewish/Catholic Wedding on a Friday

It's in July, and the ceremony is at 6, so it will be before sunset. But we made sure to ask the rabbi first if he would have a problem with that.

Best of luck to you.

Depends i think on how religious your fh is. Usually i think you can't get married after sundown on friday till sundown on saturday...something like that i am not sure and i do apoligize if i am wrong. Did you already book your hall? What does your fh say?

it is common these days to have one, but I think it has to be after sun down
a reformed rabbi who works w/ priests all the time will not care
what day is your wedding again? Its in the garden terrace too, right?

I'm getting married on a Friday and I'm Jewish and FH is Protestant. We opted to make it more of a nondenominational type of ceremony, rather than interfaith, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference in terms of marrying on the sabbath. We will be having one reverend rather than two clergy...good luck!

Yes, we have already booked the hall for April of 2003, a Friday night. If we choose to get married at the Fox Hollow (not sure yet where the ceremony will be) it would be in the room upstairs I think, not the garden room, but the room he showed me on the video set up for the actual ceremony.
I'm hoping it won't be a big deal to most people, I don't think many of his relatives are that religious, we were just curious what everyone else thought, if we would be offending anyone. We haven't even started looking for a priest/rabbi. I'm hoping a priest from my church will marry us. As for the rabbi, they aren't very religious so I don't think they have a particular rabbi in mind.
Thanks for all your opinions. :)

You will most likely not find a Rabbi that will marry you on a friday night after Sundown.

How about before sundown? Should that be a problem?

Make sure it`s not during lent or you will be serving crazy meals all kosher for one side, and all fish for the other..

Here's my 2 cents...

My husband is Jewish, I'm Catholic. We had a Sunday wedding w/ a RC Priest and a Rabbi (our ceremony was at our reception site).

We never even considered a Friday since it would have offended half of his family! Even if it was before sundown. Many of his relatives observe the Sabbath so they wouldn't have attended. If you don't think this is the case w/ FI's family, then don't worry about it!

Also, with respect to Lent, I'm not sure what Friday you picked in April but as 070502 mentioned, it could be a problem for your Catholic guests. I observe Lent and don't eat fish so I'd go home hungry from your wedding! :)

Good luck!

I would never have the wedding on a Friday night in your situation. I, too, had a Catholic/Jewish wedding, and we wouldn't have considered a Friday night wedding. We had a Sunday wedding, as it was neutral for both families. In my opinion, it's just the right thing to do. Good luck.

my girlfriend also was in that situation she ended up getting married on a Sarday night after the sabbath, Her ceremony started around seven o'clock.

In terms of a Rabbi, if the Rabbi is affliated with a congregation, he/she will have run the services at the temple on a Friday night and therefore will not be available to officiate at a wedding. That is something to keep in mind. I think whatever you decide, everyone will support. But if I were in your situation, I would try to find another time. If you want a night wedding, you can do a Saturday night or a Sunday night. Good Luck

I do not think it is a good idea out of respect for the future in laws to have the reception or wedding on a friday evening. Also, be careful with Fox Hollow, I have been to a few weddings there and the food was awful, as well, as putting everyone in the bar area and screaming out the name of the wedding that is going to take place, so everyone is lumped together in one room. Not an impressive place when you see how they handle things. You are not going to be able to get a rabbi to marry you on a friday nite even the least religious of them- reform... That is the day of reflecting and stopping activity to pray, eat a home cooked meal, etc.I wish you the best of luck.

As far as lent is concerned, it will be over since Easter is the weekend before our wedding. We did think of that. :) Before we booked Fox Hollow (which by the way, I have heard nothing but good things about, susanlynn, you are the only person I've heard say bad things about the place, I was surprised you hated it so much) we had asked his father if he thought it would be a problem and he said no. A few weeks before booking we asked his mother about having it on a Friday night and again, she didn't think it would be a problem. So we are keeping our fingers crossed that we won't be offending too many people. The more religious relatives on his side are from Canada and we doubt they would be able to make it anyway, so hopefully, we can find a rabbi and everything will work out ok. Thanks for everyone's opinions.

Who did you use for your officants? I`m currently looking for a RC priest and a Rabbi for my ceremony. I`m having problems finding the right officants. I`m also having a problem finding a priest that is not married. They all seem to be married, and I fid that a little strange. Most of the priests that perform interfaith marriages say that the marriage is also not recognized in the church. I`m having problems with my future mother-in-law with ths situation. Any recommendations??
